Man of Steel (SPOILERS)

Superman was still a good person in this movie, and he proved against the odds to be an amazing hero. He didn't ruin Metropolis and he wasn't proud that it was destroyed. Nor was he proud of killing Zod. Just because he was smiling at the end doesn't mean that he was any less distraught over the destruction. What it means is that he feels no guilt, which he shouldn't. It wasn't his fault.

Spider-Man bullies criminals .... Huge difference. I don't see a problem in that at all. Yes.. Batman is crazy but that's what makes him great. What are they supposed to all be like superman? No.

I have a friend who is a devout Superman fan, to the point that he thinks he could beat Batman. He had a massive list of things he hated about the movie (no crystal technology being his biggest gripe).

When I asked him if he was bothered by Superman killing Zod, he looked at me like I was crazy, and said, "No."

This doesn't sound like people being upset over Superman being portayed incorrectly. It sounds like people attached to these ideas have imposed them on the character and are now upset that they didn't get their way.

That being said, my problems with the film exist within the film, and maybe my notions of the very basics who Superman is. Him killing Zod was never an issue for me. It didn't even register as a big deal until...well, later on, here I guess. It just was a regular, run of the mill final battle fight.

I knew people would be up in arms about him killing zod. Like I said before, superman is the perfect superhero thus people expect way to much from him.

My problem with him killing Zod is, it wasn't a pay off, and that scene should've been a pay off. Something should've happend that would've caused Clark to say "I will not kill!" and then he is forced to kill. That's real drama.

TDK did that same plot, and aside from iffy editing, it worked. The Joker wanted to push Batman to kill someone. He drove Harvey into being a monster, and Batman had no other way around it. That was the pay off. Pay offs in film and stories are incredibly important, and honestly, not a lot of films today use them. Which is quite strange. Not every story needs it, of course. But it's always nice.

I wouldn't call it run of the mill.

My problems are similar to yours, but the ultimate payoff for me was much more significant. Despite flaws in pacing, dialogue, and a lack of gravitas (?) in certain spots, I bought it. I don't think the flaws were important enough to matter in the final analysis. The character was so well portrayed that everything else is superfluous by comparison.

I'm just speaking for myself. I was pretty disinterested in that battle, outside of being totally and utterly shocked at what I was seeing, but we've been over that.

I think the idea of killing Zod is perfectly fine. But like I said above, I wish it was a payoff to another earlier scene, or at least mentioned it before the credits rolled.

I can't think of a single thread of this film that couldn't have been improved, but at the end of the day, all I wanted was to witness Superman, and I did. Finally.

Batman is pretty crazy. He crucified Falcone, dropped Maroni from a height enough to break his legs and killed Harvey Dent.

He said something like "please don't do this" and Zod continued in his attempt to kill the family thus forcing Kal to act. The drama came immediately after when he screamed out at not only having to kill someone but for kiling the last of his kin.

Like the scene or not there's no denying it had drama and was executed well

Not wanting to derail the thread but you are now my new best friend. I've had this discussion/rant with people countless times. I know how pathetic people think it is for caring so much but it drives me mad.

A pay off shouldn't happen with in seconds of each other. I don't think it worked well at all. I don't mind that it happened, but it didn't really make me feel anything.

You need to plant the seed, and let it grow.
