I was just getting my head round the etiqutte of Alfred's evening dress, to work out what I could use the spare one for, and discovered the difference between white tie and black tie.

White tie is for the most formal events, and is worn with a tailcoat.

Black tie is less formal and worn with a tuxedo.


A butler on duty at a white tie event would wear a tailcoat, but his bow tie would be black or grey so that he wouldn't be mistaken for a guest.

Which narrows down the use for the spare set to... butler or household staff.

This deal's getting worse all the time.

Even at $227 this Alfred is too much for me. 1966 Batman will always have a place in my heart but Michael Gough is my Alfred and I have him so I'm good.

Well there are ways to at least lessen the import cost, but to my knowledge they all involve the seller being aware of them or to care about doing anything about it. And I'm not even sure if the same could apply to the states as they would overseas. So to sum up, yes plan for every package, depending on the customs dollar value and any potential minimum not impacted. If you're really interested in how it all works, search how other countries have handled tariffs for years and should at least give you a basic awareness. But of course this could vary. This is all new for us.

Yes. Put it in your budget to have to pay a fee of 10% of the item's value when you receive the shipment.

This is a fluid situation, but I don't think anyone knows at this point exactly how much will be owed. My guess is 10% since that's what the tariff is.

I would assume that manufacturers would be paying it for those parts and including that in the completed car’s cost, but if the care is assembled in the USA, there shouldn’t be any tariff on the car itself. I think it’s more where the final product comes from rather than the sum of its parts, but presumably the builders importing parts would be hit at the point of import on any parts.

Oh absolutely! I think a LOT of businesses will use this excuse whether it’s true or not. I’ve already seen it with egg prices at a few local restaurants. Anywhere from $1 to 50 cents more per egg in your meal. Curious to see if those go back down after the egg shortage gets solved.

So no, now is probably not a good time for an Egghead figure

Yes, it happened at the top of Lockdown and to varying degrees ongoing from there. Suppliers had a field day with the prices. While prices did go down later, I still don't think they ever returned to before the pandemic. And maybe it's a bit pessimistic, but why would they once people are conditioned to accept the new normal? I think in this case to meet a certain expectation of believability, just like with gas prices, the cost of groceries will fluctuate but probably not return to the same price as before. Unfortunately. It was *really* nice to see them dip to the great prices we've had for months this last year.
