He named Sara Palin the governer of Alaska as his running mate. Didn't see that coming. :horror

Going after the female vote I guess. She does not have much exp either, but she's just the VP candidate where as Obama has none and is the Presidential candidate.

I'm pretty sure voters will see this as the blatant pandering it is. A given segment of the GOP base will never vote for a woman, and her pick gives him just three electoral votes. What was he thinking?

I'm not the biggest McCain fan, but this smacks of desperation.

I don't know much about her, and definitely didn't see it coming. I'm technically independent (although I skew democrat), but I think this is a smart choice for McCain. From what I've read/watched today, she *seems* to be really with it, well-liked in Alaska, and very poised and personable. Hmm, it looks like the political race is getting more interesting. I love it! :devil

That's what puzzles me. Does the McCain campaign think there are more ripe PUMAs on the outside of the party than, er, gender-conservative (sexist) voters on the inside? Ann Coulter and her ilk don't even think women should be allowed the vote.

I 100% thought McCain would pander with his VP choice, but I thought it would be by picking Lieberman.

This is really a baffling choice though because Alaska isn't really a swing state or anything.

Either she has good ideas or she's a tool.

Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska. Confirmed VP Candidate. She has 5 kids, is a confirmed "Hockey" mom attending many of her kid's games even in office which plays up to the family values core of the GOP. I know she was a beauty pageant runner up....The big issue with her is that she dismissed Walter Monegan as Commissioner of Public Safety after his reluctance to fire an Alaska State Trooper who was her brother in law and going through a divorce with her sister.

Its an interesting move, many will view it as dirty or desperate but regardless he definitely made a power move and made this election more interesting because the Democrats and Republicans have been pushing for a "President Ready" VP because the leading thought is that McCain may die in office....will women voters both Republican and Democratic be able not to be tempted by a chance of putting a first possible Woman President in office?

I saw it coming and it's a brilliant move. If you don't think that some of the 49% of Hilary supporters will seriously take a look at Palin you'd be sorely mistaken. Palin is to the republican party what Obama was a few years ago when he deliverd his first keynote at the convention. Her star is rising rapidly.

smart move. get all the die hard feminists that wanted to see hillary on the ticket to switch teams

Does she wear pants or skirts? If she wears skirts she might not get that fem vote anyway.

A ton of Hillary supporters have already been pretty vocal saying that they feel "cheated" and won't vote for Obama, this play right into that division in the Democratic party and tempts them to switch parties. Its a strategic, brilliant cutthroat move. The question will be whether he'll be able to tow the Republican line as well as this move. Also it doesn't hurt that the GOP has a higher voter turn out historically than the Democrats. Obama will really need his supporters to show up and turn the vote anyway. This just makes it harder. My wife who was a very firm Hillary supporter though still says even after this announcement she sides with Obama after last night's speech so she'll have to really be a great speaker to turn the tide at least in this house.

Hillary supporters won't be switching parties just because McCain's running mate wears a skirt. Most feminists don't consider conservative women to be real women at all. They consider them to be sell-outs.

This election is over, and Obama just won by a landslide. I just hope the country survives.

The sky is falling to.
