Weigh in:
McGregor = 153 lbs
Mayweather = 149.5 lbs
Probably after rehydration.
McGregor = 161
Mayweather = 155
McGregor is about 1" taller so will have an edge in height, power and youth. Mayweather will have the advantage in defense, technique and experience, because he's not a knockout puncher.
I consider this more of a sideshow than a boxing match -- Rocky Balboa vs. Thunderlips. The media and promoters have tried to turn it into something it's not. It's not the fight "fans have been demanding". It never friggin' occurred to the fans! You don't hear the fans clamoring for Wladimir Klitschko v. Brock Lesner. They're the heavyweights. This has been match manufactured by two showy, loudmouth fighters and greedy ass promoters.
I think McGregor comes out like a crazy man and tries to land some bombs early. He could get lucky. Mayweather tries to weather the early onslaught with counter punches, shoulder rolls and clinches. Floyd will focus on accumulating points and it's possible he might hurt Connor in the later rounds, but I don't see him knocking him out. If McGregor loses he still makes more money than any MMA fighter in history. Even if Mayweather loses, for him it's all about the money. He's making 3X what he made for the Pacman fight. There were just no other matches that could have been made. So for him this one night is the equivalent of staying in the game for another 3 or 4 years. Mayweather was just laying back, letting the hype machine run, and watching the payday balloon continue to inflate. If he had actually been ducking McGregor, he probably would have insisted Connor prove himself by taking on a couple of ranked fighters beforehand. That way either McGregor would have gotten beaten by someone else or at the very least gotten banged up and Mayweather would have been able to study his films. If McGregor wins, what next? Does he then become a boxer? Everyone would be coming after him. But you have a match making problem again. He'd be down to $10M-$20M purses. One match that could be interesting would be McGregor v. Gennady Golovkin (GGG).
But assuming they give folks a good show and Mayweather ends up outpointing a frustrated McGregor so they can both trash talk, it will be time to move on. Mayweather will retire 50-0 so a new generation can come along. McGregor can continue ruling in the UFC until he gets knocked off. Which happens to everyone.
