They were asking ridiculous price for the 1/60 Macross VF-1J set and it was $100 when Yamato started selling them.

That's not Bandai. That's Arcadia, different company and I'm not sure which VF-1J set you're referring to as there were different versions. Arcadia is a much smaller company compared to Bandai.

my bad, but still their SOC price has gone really crazy. A Mazinger now cost twice Combattler V was, more than what Dancouga once was, and the combiners price has gone over the chart. I'm not even touching those lines anymore. Same goes for Takara with their Masterpiece.

Either inflation, yen appreciation, lower sales, higher cost or greedy executives are contributing to all these.

But we can all see where this is all headed, when sales drop, they increase the price to cover the loss of sales, which in turns results in even lower sales, thus a further increase in price until they can no longer make profit and they drop the line or company goes bust. They won't be able to keep a long and healthy lineup like Hasbro's Star Wars & G.I Joes 3.75" series, or Hot Wheels $1 car. One would have thought that cheaper steel price during the past decades should have resulted in cheaper diecast toys like back in the diecast peak days.

Sigh......MAFEX announcing crap like THE BOYS and we're still sitting here with no decent 6 inch AKIRA toys.

If it was NECA I'd get it....but why is a Japanese company catering to this flash-in-the-pan waste of time?

has neca done any japanese cartoon figures?

To my knowledge, no.

But what I was saying was I don't understand why MAFEX is wasting its time with this niche adult streaming drama, which isn't very good, when other companies are already doing it.

MAFEX should be doing more DC stuff and more homegrown anime stuff...like AKIRA!!

seems like Mafex creation was mainly to target western audiences with their more articulated action figures.

Well, FIGMA or SCF Figuarts will do just as nicely. We need a six inch scale Kaneda!

What do you guys think? There is room for improvement. Have to find a thinner fabric. Soon I'll post the complete posed figure and bike.

Which bike do you recommend for a beginner?

Geez. EVERYTHING in insane on the aftermarket right now. My favorite is the Soul of Popynica version by Bandai from 2004. It's a lot smaller than the 1/6th scale, but unfortunately it's going for a few hundred bucks right now.

Even the lackluster McFarlanes with inaccurate sculpt and stickers is going for a lot.

The cheapest thing on the market now are those tiny gacha toys by K+M, but Kaneda has an awful sculpt on those, and they're also inaccurate.

If money's no issue, go for the SOP version from 2004, in my opinion.

looks pretty good to me. did you make it?

My mother has a seweing hobby, but not quite at that scale. That is actual leather, so a bit more difficult to work with on smaller models. She intends to retry it if she can find a better /thinner cloth. Maybe even copy the Facebook custom one.

Looks great Brunoosti.....personally I'd love to outfit my Kaneda with a fresh set of clothes.

My only suggesting is maybe make the kneepads a darker shade of red. Depending on the lighting in the anime, they stand out from the rest of the outfit.

Also, when it comes time to put the capsule on the back, I personally would leave off the lettering. I know Otomo liked to add that in promo drawings, but it was never in the anime so if you want it more anime accurate, just have the pill only on the back.

Just my two cents!

I think the same way. Though I'm a bit afraid of messing up the jacket when glueing the pill. My kaneda stays sited on the bike, so the pill doesn't show that much. I still have to find a material to create the pill and not make it too thick with the jacket.

I've had this fantasy forever of having a 1/12 scale articulated Kaneda, to along with the 2004 SOP bike or even a brand new tooled bike.

But my new fantasy is this: SMALLER. Like the very first Kaneda and Bike by Bandai back in 1988, but with today's techology. Kaneda wouldn't need to be a featureless rubber lump.

Bike could be 100% diecast and even have a light up headlight if they wanna get ambitious. And Kaneda would be small...like the old MASK figures small.

Why so small? Easy....so you could do them ALL for the first time. Kaneda, Yamagata, Tetsuo, the shaved head guy in their gang, all with the bike designs from the movie, all 100% diecast. And ALLLLL the Clowns....Joker, his "escorts"....the guy Tetsuo beats up, the creep-o with the rubber nose. All with diecast, scale bikes.

I know it'll never happen. But I were one of those billionaires that actually LOSE money when I take an extra long pee, I'd fund these in a heartbeat. How amazingly cool would that be.

But alas....until we get really good 3D printers, and the ability to make our own intricate diecast motorcycles, and give them all amazing paintjobs......it'll just have to stay a beautiful dream.

wow lucky guy. another way of thinning the leather would be actually sanding the underside. lots of work and messy, but the thinnest i found on ebay were i think sheep skin.

you can try dry transfer decals if you have access to it, and add a sealant to seal it off. but it is better to do the decal before sewing the pieces on so you get a flat application. or if you afraid of messing the leather up you can just use something like elmers glue, they peel off easily and don't harm the surface and dries clear. since it's just a small piece you maybe able to get a piece of white leather and thin it down cut it to shape and apply sticker/decal on it.

btw you can ask Project_A in the resident evil custom thread about putting logos onto leather stuffs.

i don't know what scale yamato's garland was, but the figure had decent articulation and sculpt and the bike scale seems bigger than the Popy Bike. but hey if Bandai made the Cyclone with Rider 1 with front lights they could do a Kaneda if they really wanted, but please don't use the same crappy pleather Rider 1 had.

sheep leather was exactly what she used.
I thought about sanding the under side of the leather, but that may make it even more fragile than the original from medicom and get uneven thickness all over... also, there is the line with which you sew... have to be a much thinner one. We'll see if we can improve the model with what we got here and maybe she'll even put some on ebay. I'll let you guys know if that happens.
The one from facebook seams to be a paper thin synthetic imitation of leather. It's hard to understand how some parts could have been done, as there is fabric over fabric without adding much thickness.
