That halo jump naked snake is awesome. How did you make the mask?

Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk

Thanks. If I remember correctly (I made it years ago) I started with a Storm Shadow head and then I attached some ear pieces from a set of pilot headphones onto the sides and then plastidipped the whole thing. Then I found a found some goggles that were as close as I could get and painted the lenses to get that yellowish look. Then it was just a matter of finding a face mask that was close and adding some tubes for the O2 lines. The last thing I did was use the plastidip to mold a little piece of hair from another big boss head sculpt and glued it in the back under the mask. In the end its not a perfect representation but I have been fairly happy with it.

Since this thread seems to have slowed down some I guess this is as good a time as any to post the 1/6 MGS figures and a few related collectibles that I finally have on display in my new mancave.

Thanks guys!

Hey ghost, is the plastidip the rubber coated paint perchance?

Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk

I think they make it in a sprayable paint, but the one I use comes in a little can with a lid and you actually dip stuff right into it. It looks like black tar before it dries.

Cool, I saw the spray stuff. I just had an idea when you mentioned it. Of making a sneaking suit by the plasti dip spray on a muscle body. As the joints can be covered on the arms and knees by pads. Then all the load bearing gear on top. So it would essentially look like a action figure like the PAK ones...can you paint on top of the plasti dip would be a deal breaker.

Its an interesting idea for sure. I've never painted Plastidip myself but there are several sources on the web that seem to agree that it can be done. Most of the debate around it seems to come from painting things that will be flexing regularly, so the only issue you might run into would be having the paint flake off around joints or places where the Plastidip flexes when posing the figure. The only other thing I would say is that you might want to consider doing several layers of the Plastidip as it dries on pretty tight and form fitting, so you might not get the desired look with just one coat. I actually used it to do the forearms of my MGS3 Big Bosses under the fatigues and it has held up really well.

i once sprayed pearl colored plastidip on a basketball, the main problem with flexible stuff would be the inner layer coming off and causing bubble. it's less likely gonna flake as the surface are bonded together. because they are designed so that they can be easily removed by pulling.

Thanks for sharing. I was reading about on an action figure forum. The joints are a problem. But it's actually for a MGS1 Snake. So the shoulder joints, knees, elbows are hidden. I picked up a unique part from a custom punisher figure. Its basically looks like vinyl underwear, which can cover the crouch area. Then the thigh harness can cover the seams. I should just take a picture!

What an amazing collection! I can only hope I can have a display like that one day!

Since this thread seems to have slowed down some I guess this is as good a time as any to post the 1/6 MGS figures and a few related collectibles that I finally have on display in my new mancave.

Absolutely superb. Well done.

How do you get that Croc Cap to stay on his head though? That damn thing is heavy!

Here is my work in progress - Solid Snake
The idea is to paint the plasti dip on the arms and legs. The ankles will be covered up by gaters. One of my many MGS customs. I seem to keep starting them and keep improving what I have already done. Slow and steady!

Thanks. That croc cap is heavy and I actually have the snout of the croc resting on Halo Jump Big Boss' backpack. It works out that way pretty good, but at my old house I was actually able to get it to stay on by itself by facing his head up a little and I guess him having a stiff neck joint.

Yes, this looks like a good beginning. I think the plastidip will work out for you. Just remember, if I were you I'd use more than one coat of it.

I've heard you have to give around 5 coats to get a smooth finish. I will still have to do a bit of sculpting on the shoulders, as there is those pads on the suit and the fore arms. If this technique works really well, it could work for a mgs2 Snake also Raiden.
