You know what a really novel concept would be? If someone could show some creativity in Hollywood and create a decent horror icon with the staying power of the Freddy, Michael, Jason, Leatherface instead of re-making the films until doomsday.

But that requires independent thought and creativity. Not just going "People am love Mikey Myers. Us am make 20 new moobies about him."

Unfortunately when we just keep packing otu cinemas to see the same drivel, we miss an original picture when it comes along.

For example: when I first saw the film "Insidious"....I didnt much care for it. I couldn't figure out why. So, I waited a few months and watched it again. It's actually a pretty good flick, with plot elements fairly untapped in film. It was original. As was the film "the Unborn". They touched on plot elements and mythologies that havent been trampled to death in film and were kind of unique. Which I think is what threw me at first. I had gotten so used to seeing formula films and re-makes that when something unique came along....it was unidentifiable at first to my subconscious.:lecture

Hollywood is bringing out so much re-made formula dreck....we are getting used to it. I don't wanna get used to it. While I always want the 80's monsters to be remembered like the golden age monsters....I would really like for someone to come up with an idea that is unique and original in its presentation. You know its bad when the 70's and 80's gave us all these icons, and more recently we just havent had too many films that bring us new iconic beasts.:peace

I will probably go see the film........:lol

I agree with you totally. That's why in some ways I wish they would just leave Myers alone at this point. If you enjoy original new characters then I suggest the following movies which if you check my threads, I have made my own custom figure for each one.

Laid To Rest 1 and 2
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (sequel on the way)
The Collector

Oh and I thought Insidious was awesome. Most effective horror movie in several years. :hi5:

Goes both ways though. Every time people try something new, everybody always compares it to the old ____ anyway, so there's really no reprieve. :lol

Totally agree with all of the above. While Antons correct in his point of view, Nams correct as well. Even when something original does come out, people automatically look for the reference material or try and categorize it in a certain genre regardless of how good or bad it is, people will always say that reminded me of .....list many awesome horror films.

Plus with the internet now, word of mouth speaks and alot of time a movie coudl be really good, but if word spreads that it sucks...regardless of it being good the final outcome will show itself in the box office numbers.

OK, i'll keep my post short, simple and to the point:
IMO Halloween 78 yes
Halloween RZ no
Halloween Michael Bay maybe??
Laid to rest awesome
Laid to rest 2 not so much
Rise of leslie vernon, great concept not so much with the execution, good acting though
And Hatchet was good, 2 was not so good
IMO
The Collector was ok
as was The Strangers
Insidious...saw it 20 years ago, it was called Poltergeist

I started watching Laid to Rest and the girl was kinda awful so I couldn't even finish it, I still don't know how it ends, its kinda painful to watch..

I Loved Rise of Leslie Vernon because it was a really good self aware movie, Better than Scream,
I think the Ending of Leslie Vernon felt really flat, they were kinda making fun of all this cliches, I was really hoping they would not do the same cliches at the end, and that's exactly what They did...
that kinda pissed me off, I wish they went against everything they were talking about.

Hatchet, I don't know, I thought it sucked.

The Collector was really freaky, I loved it,

Yeah I actually thought Laid to Rest was ok, the 2nd one had a bigger budget and we got to see chrome skull's face which was cool after what happened, but over all hes no icon. A cool character that they can do more sequals but again no icon.

Hatchet was cool, the 2nd one...not so much and The Collector was decent but again no icon. Rise of Leslie a cool concept, but yeah I didnt think the movie was that good overall.

yeah none of them are big icons, that's true,

and About Bay taking Halloween, I think it was an April Fool's joke, I really do

I didnt get a Poltergeist vibe from Insidious at all. It was more of a Dr. Strange/Strange Tales with a horror twist to me. I like Laid to rest 1. I thought the sequel was meh. I havent seen that Leslie Vernon thing yet. With all the pornography in the world today---I dont like it in my horror flicks. Whcih is why I dont watch Rob Zombie's Halloween's and didnt like the Friday the 13th remake. If I were to watch the Friday the 13th remake in mixed company it would make me wanna extremely uneasy.:wink1:. If ya wana watch porn...go to a porn site. That crap in a horror film ruins the fear when a naked chick is in every other scene.

not only is that look the worst, but is close to being the worst Halloween movie ever, it seriously sucks so much

It is the worst Halloween ever. Although some of the series are just okay, they were watchable. Resurrection is appalling.

yeah its the only one I dont own. I even have the RZ Halloweens, but Ressurection will never come close to my collection. It didnt happen :panic:

so, in accordance with standard bay style... Myers is going to be an alien who can cause explosions by looking at things in the new movie.

I heard he's going to get William shatner to play him.

omg, im speechless lol.

Is Bay trying to "producer" every cult classic franchise now or somthing?? I dont hate bay at all to be honest, i think hes a solid director who has delivered some powerful stuff, i like Armageddon, Bad Boys, The island, transformers, hes a great action director and when he doesnt clutter his story he can deliver a good movie. But to keep hearing hes doing this that an the other thing im just like chill out.

But!! Mabey he can bring justice to the halloween saga, i always said it needs more action beats, and mabey bay will have somthing up his sleeve.

The original is classic, part 2 is a good continuation of that story but wtf is part 3??? but i LOVE part 4, the cast, the story, danielle harris. part 5 is okay but got a little wierd imo. Not much a fan of anything after that besided H20!!! loved it!! it brought back the action beats and delivered! Im not a fan of Zombies take, to raunchy for no reason.

Im interested in what they do, i do like the Chainsaw movies and Nightmare on elm street was pretty good to!

If this is true I think its a good thing

Almost every remake has been good, Texas Chainsaw was awesome, and Jason was great, the Platinum Dunes movies have been okay so far,
I welcome this new movies
I really just, I honestly hope or wish they make a new story, seriously how many times can you tell the same story, is one of the reasons I got so freaking tired of Dracula movies over the years, How many times can you film the same story until it starts making you sick, I don't know If I could stomach another remake of the first one..

Rob Zombie's Halloween, I Loved the first half, Not as a HAlloween movie, but, what Rob shot, I loved it, I loved seeing the kid, I love the crazy family, that first half was great,
Like Someone else said, the movie should have had another name and a different costume and it would have been great, I mean, I really enjoy watching the first half.
After Michael grows up... and after Laurie Strode AKA Scout Taylor-Compton AKA the most annoying girl on Earth was introduced, I lost all interest, Michael was still great. But I feel Zombie made the girls too annoying, like, extremely, specially with Laurie, a lot of times in the movie I Felt like slapping her in the head and tell her to relax lol, Zombie made her too childish and too annoying, that ruined it for me, I liked everything except the girls, I think Zombie wanted us to side with Myers but he made it too extreme,

and I thought Halloween 2 made no sense, it was really boring and was awful. the whole beginning being a dream sequence pissed me off, I started the movie being pissed off already, it was a good beginning that Zombie destroyed with being a dream, then Michael wanders off in the road... WtF? and the stuff about his mom, seriously, What the Hell.. I know the Jason comparisons always happen here about his mom talking to him. but not even, That was just so dumb...

plus, Michael talking at the end... enough said... just because of Halloween 2, I think it might be a good thing Bay is taking over
