Yup. Lots of name calling and then retaliatory name calling about the name calling. Always 'hardcores vs. casuals'...those dirty casuals. How dare they not have a problem with the movie. 'REAL' fans will boycott... Oh, that's kind of whats going on in here right now. lol

Sounds like a ****** place :lol

No no, I don't have a problem with casuals. Just posers like I said. :lol I mean, there really is a difference. I've held my tongue for months now but even I have to draw the line when people say this couldn't have been a good or even great movie just because it's about Ninja Turtles. No fan would say that.

It's not actually! I just stear clear of the fights. I just chalk it up to people being passionate about what they love. It's just that it's a forum for TMNT so there's always **** measuring contest over who's a 'true' fan. It's like a forum of just Nolan Batman threads actually. lol

Shakespeare in Love beat Saving Private Ryan. Chicago beat Gangs of New York. Do you still want to use your "it has an Oscar" arguement? :lol Politics don't make a good movie.

Ah..yes. You'll say anything to make a point, but regardless of politics, the Oscars are rarely wrong. The same can be said about Ordinary People beating Raging Bull or No Country For Old Man beating There will be Blood, but those films were great, so it's not like they were bad films either. Remember, film is subjective.

Yea I go there for news but I'm not a member. I can't see it accomplishing much.

you are aware the cartoons of the turtles were meant for kids right? :lol

Casuals/posers...kind of interchangeable no? Especially in the context you're using it. ;)

Will this be THE DEFINITIVE TMNT movie... no. It never was going to be. Will it be enjoyable and have what you've deemed the CORE of the franchise- the family aspect? Sounds like they've got at VERY least that in there.

So was the Real Ghostbusters but that didn't stop all those jokes in the real movies from going over my kid head.

We'll see. Splinter being a simple lab rat is a poor start. No reason to feel the need to replace his family. No obligation to the turtles for being the one who started a fight and mutated them. No reason for him to know how to fight let alone be a "master".

It's just that it's a forum for TMNT so there's always **** measuring contest over who's a 'true' fan.

And his name is Deckard. And he's got the biggest TMNT ****...or so he thinks. Which is why he dresses llike a TMNT and will roundhouse kick you in the face if you have an opinion about a film in a film thread and he doesn't agree with it...even though it's a film and it doesn't have to be the same as the comics or cartoons :lol

When something is a cartoon like that, silly and funny things will come out of it. the target audience is 5 year olds and up.

This movie will do really well with the kids that are watching the show now. It is not meant for us technically. Even kids of today think that the old tv show was lame and stupid.

this conversation and your posts remind me exactly of this pic

So the new Star Wars movies aren't for us because the cartoon is on Disney XD right? Guess they didn't have to bother bringing back Luke and Han right?

Cartoons stemming from films should be to introduce kids to the same concepts in the movies they can love as adults.

Because it was. :lol I watch the new Nick show and even I can't go back and watch the old cartoons anymore. That's the point. Things evolve as people and their ability to handle new emotions do. This movie is a step back in every way. Which is exactly why people are saying dumb **** like "it's just bro turtles, they're just goofy". So was Batman back in 1967. It evolved into Nolan's stuff. This had that chance and it wasn't taken. Why would real fans who know there is a "Batman Begins" quality story to tell not be upset they're doing Batman and Robin?

you are mistaken. The turtles used to be gritty before in the comicsmaybe.

But they changed into kids cartoons. they evolved, It's not the same with Star Wars. SW had a cartoon made but it never evolved into kids stuff automatically. It is still for everyone. That transition never happened. (same thing with the ghost busters, or bettlejuice, they had a cartoon show made but they never evolved into kids' stuff only, Even Robocop had a cartoon show made)

you keep talking about being a true turtles fan and about the posers being stupid. But in this case none of that matters because the turtles became something like Pokemon or Digimon.
And there are a lot of adults that take Pokemon seriously and play the Pokemon card games and they are hardcore about it. But Pokemon is still for kids, just like the turtles are now.

that's also the difference with Transformers. Transformers was a cartoon show but it was a serious cartoon, it wasn't a comedy action show like the Turtles. Transformers was just as serious as a regular action tv show.
the difference here is that the Turtles were not only action but comedy as well, and that the cartoons they made of the turtles became more child friendly.

:lol You have no idea what you're talking about. Yes I know they were gritty, they did not evolve by becoming a cartoon. Just as Batman 1967 did not evolve over the comic strips that came before. Like I said, real fans know there is story potential to make a Batman Begins quality reboot. Michael Bay chose Batman and Robin instead. This is not evolution. The polar opposite. This is making the Nick Cartoon look mature and refined by comparison.

Nick doesn't need Mikey making rape jokes.

When was TMNT deep and meaningful? I read the comics in the 80's and they were, silly, extremely violent, fun, and a parody of other characters. The 80's cartoon was a silly kids show, which I love, but it's not great and there is nothing deep about it.

Ok hold on, I thought people were tired of "durk and greetty"? Or is it that people choose which side to be on depending on their convenience? I still see people saying this movie is "dark and gritty" as if it was a bad thing, you're the 1st person who compared this to Batman and Robin.

This is more comparable to BB given how everything seems to be explained and how many liberties they took with the lore.

BB is not an example of respect to the source material you know? If they can take liberties with Batman who's the single most popular character, they sure as hell can take liberties with every other character and it doesn't mean they'll suck.

It's not dark and gritty so much as taking the material serious. You wouldn't agree that Batman is taken seriously by Nolan vs the way everything is handled in Batman and Robin? It adapted quite a bit of source material from Year One etc and his no killing rule. Those are big deals.

Of course I want Turtles that crack jokes etc. I just don't want them to be black because Michael Bay thinks it's funny.

Yeah, yet nothing indicates a lack of seriousness in this reboot.

Nolan took bits and pieces out of context and put them in his movies, that's not respect for the source material, he changed the lore in ways like Batman being trained by the league of assassins, changed the origin of many characters, changed the design of the characters BIG time etc etc, yet keeping a basic understanding of the characters (for the most part).... They seem to have done the exact same thing here, I don't see why it's suddenly a problem.

I'm not talking quality-wise though, cause I haven't seen this movie, I'm talking about the way the lore is being treated, it seems no different.

What material? The silly violent comics? The silly 80's cartoon? What exactly are you a fan of...then?
