It's weird, for me the last 5 Mission films have had far better action and suspense than any other action franchise (even more than John Wick), but I've never felt much desire to rewatch them. At least until the next one is about to release and I suddenly remember that they exist.

I kind of know what you mean.

But I will get in the mood. But like you it’s usually after a new one is announced.

I think it’s because the films are the action sequences but Ethan Hunt is not as interesting of a character as say Indiana Jones. I return to those cause the are great action films with a wonderful main character.

I think the MI films have their share of real and not real shots. You can only do so much. They are not going to risk the lives of both actors fighting in a real chopper hanging over a cliff.

But I thought the shot of Tom falling from the chopper and his flying all looked real.
Yeah the MI films are so well directed and edited that they're still gripping and suspenseful as hell even when you can often tell there's a lot of CGI involved in something like that final chopper sequence, or the ending train sequence of this movie.

I’m happily forced to constantly rewatch the McQ ones because my kids love them. I still say the opera sequence and the motorbike chase in Rogue Nation are two of the best sequences in any movie in the last ten years.

Welp, put me in the "liked it but not greatly" category. Better than 'meh' but long and somewhat repetitive of other Missions.

Loved the car chase. The train had some good beats, and some bad ones. Rebecca, as usual, had the best fight in the movie. Tom can still run in a long tracking shot. Hayley was great. Pom started off great...

Didn't love all the talk about the key and how to get it -- then lose it -- then reset, and talk again. Pom disappointed me. The 'big stunt' was heavily oversold.

But man, that car chase...

Overall, better than MI6... not as good as MI5.

So no DOD huh?

Yeah I heard a lot of talk beforehand about how amazing Pom was, and while it was cool to see her in this, the character didn't really stand out that much to me. And also not sure I buy the twist at the end and her sudden change of heart for no reason...

her sudden change of heart for no reason...
They needed another character to deliver more exposition. :lol

I feel she was wasted too.
They just fridged 2 ladies her just so that Ethan will have something to mope about.

Just saw the numbers for this, and they are well below original projections.

Some are saying it will have legs like Maverick, but I'm guessing the reason for the low numbers is what happened to me; franchise fatigue. I said earlier I'm not a huge fan of the series, but what I should have added was the word "anymore."

Maverick was only the second after 36 years, and it turned out to be a great time at the movies - you left the cinema on a high. A rare achievement these days...

MI:5 is my fav also I think. I did enjoy 6 more than you I think.

I didn’t even know Pom was in it till my friend leaned over and told me it was her. I didn’t recognize her without the bug eyes and antenna :lol

I thought she was great. Again I was not expecting her to be in it. I just thought the crazy girl who was living and having fun in the car chase was great.

Yes great car chase.

The big “stunt” was not all that special true. I just give Tom credit for doing all of this for the audience.

The fact it was a Part One probably didn't help either. I'm sure there were many who were simply turned off by the idea of sitting through a three hour movie to only get half of the story. And I admit that made me groan a bit inside as well when it was revealed.

Yep, I liked her up to that moment. I would put that sudden change into the 'dumb' category along with Tom's surprise "save" on the train.

I love wild, dangerous sidekicks and I've been pining for her character since I saw the earliest trailers. She looks wild and punk and cool and crazy. So her ending was like... "huh?"

I was hoping for a nice showdown between Tom and Pom in the tilting train cars. They had a piano and everything just waiting for that fight that never happened.

Thank god Toht never changed his mind and stepped over to Indy: I vill to help you.

MI:5 is my fav also I think.

Okay then there definitely isn't any need for me to see this on the big screen then. I enjoyed MI5 also (though the only scene that sticks out in my memory is Rebecca lifting her leg to balance the sniper rifle) but it never resonated enough to watch even once since it first came out. I think I'll just wait until Dead Reckoning "Part 2" comes out and then watch this one right before so I don't have a big wait between chapters.

I guess I had an ok run at the cinemas, here’s approximately 50% of just opening night…kind of read on…

:chase

ANH Opening Summer!

The Black Hole Opening Night!

DOD Opening Weekend! (Almost brainwashed by the woke crowd lol)
Lucky you, Black Hole opening night. :lol
I saw The Black Hole on opening night as well. One of my friends convinced our group of 5 that we had to go because "it could be the next Star Wars and we'd regret it if we waited". He was NEVER allowed to choose a film again lol.

And BTW, NO ONE saw ANH on opening night because it was never called that until years later. It was (and still is) simply Star Wars.

Take that back! The Black Hole is a Hollywood Jewel.

Yet all the MI films other than MI:2 are better than Top Gun:Maverick but you keep watching that movie ;) j/k

While I do prefer the MI films to any Top Gun film I see the quality as the same. The Mission in TG:M was basically a MI plot anyways lol

Ok it’s that time I guess

MI rankings

1. MI:3 - No crazy stunts in this one but a great villain. Best villain of the series IMO.
2. MI:5 - Good villain, great main stunt, great Bike chase, Great MI girl
3. MI:1 - I’m a big fan of this one. It’s not action packed but it moves at a great pace.
4. MI:7 - great action, good MI girls, great villain.
5. MI:6 - Great villains and some top notch action. Movie overstays it’s welcome by the end.
6. MI:4 - I like this more now. I did not care for it on first viewing. Thought the Villain was a bore. 2nd viewing was much more enjoyable.

7. MI:2 - was crap when it was first released and it’s worse crap now.
