In my observations, Sideshow doesn't seem to discount their items very much. Instead, less popular stuff is put up on the gift card list and given away as prizes.

BBTS clears out unpopular stock, eventually, by dropping the price. Sometimes pretty extremely. They had some Battlestar Galactica Minimate packs of 4 (with variant) for $8 recently, because that was the only way they could move it out of their warehouse.

As for why newer stuff is cheaper through retailers other than Sideshow, I don't really know, but as has been discussed by others here, you are getting some great customer service for your money that you really can't get anywhere else (though I should note that BBTS has very good customer service).

Sideshow marks their own stuff at full retail price, but other dealers have to compete with the Sideshow website, so they take advantage of their low wholesale price to discount them on their own sites. I'm often surprised how much discount their is if the dealer is still able to make a profit after their wholesale costs.

What is Sideshow charging dealers for each piece?

One guy I get stuff from sells me stuff for 10% off retail, no tax, no shipping, and he still seems glad to do it.

Retailers must have it real cheap from SS to be able to sell it at a discount, but still, sideshow is sideshow.

Damn, that's a good deal. Definitely an underrated figure. I'm just sad that we probably won't see any others in the series. I'm tempted to buy one of these to customize into other other crew members.

yep. at this point i'd rather have more humans in moebius suits than the alien figure they made.
my hope is either ht will make drastic changes or neca will make a 1:6 version of their alien.

i agree that this is an underrated figure. the various parts of the suit are very well sculpted. the only thing i'm worried about is the longevity of the rubber suit....
