hi for those of you collect mondo posters can you shed some light on why they are so popular? I see they going for $150+ on ebay which seemed pretty crazy considering they are prints and not original artist paintings (right?). Is there something special about those prints vs the $10 movie posters you can buy for the same theme.

Screen prints are something unique. They are not spit out by a digital printer--they are hand made one screen/color at a time. The texture and appearance is not the same as a giclee or lithograph. These are also limited edition prints, produced in small quantities and hand numbered. There are many more people who want to collect specific artwork from the Mondo artists than there are copies to go around. Supply and demand means that they will typically go up in value. Anybody can get a mass produced Photoshop style movie poster at Target or Wal-Mart, but getting the work of the Mondo artists on your wall is more desirable to some fans/collectors, and they are willing to pay more for the opportunity.

i collect these mondo posters and alamo drafthouse.pretty much the same thing..but it's kind of funny when a set is sold at $150 dollars for a set of 3 and an like 2 hours later. the set is being sold at an inflated price of $ 800 to $ 1000 bucks on ebay.

Got my first mondo print to see what it's all about, took me 20 mins to open the **** thing trying not to break it, they sealed it with a metal cap...

The print itself looks no different than any other $10 poster...i was expecting at least somewhat higher quality like lithograph print. $80 for this? what a joke. Going to give it to my little cousin, she loves mickey.

Done, writing it off as snake oil...woosh!

Some are definitely better than others depending on style and maybe even the printing process. The only Mondo poster I own is Swamp Thing and it is awesome. Looking at their stock photo, it looks like a very flat print but when you see it in hand, it's almost like there are different levels to the coloring. It really has a dimensionality to it.

I love the style of alot of those Mondo posters. But I would def break the bank adding another item for me to collect. Figures, statues, art books and blurays already get most of my money.

thats because there are different levels to the coloring

Are these prints all signed and numbered ? Like the "wise little hen" on Sideshow right now is a run of 115 it says.

I wanted the tron one and it disappeared quick.

I like Donald, so I bought this one (with reward points) but it figures that the 1 I buy isn't in demand. I think the Mickey one sold out faster than this even though it has 20% more.

What movie posters do you see for $10?

Theatrical one sheets can also go for quite a bit of money (eventually) depending on the film and poster. I have many that are worth thousands of dollars, and many more that are worth hundreds of dollars.

In the end it is like any other collectible, to someone else, they see it as just a piece of paper and not worth the money, just like some look at Sideshow or Hot toys figures and just see an over-priced piece of plastic.

It's all in the eye of the beholder.

Edit- there is one set I would love to have, I forget the artist but they are Star Wars themed, C-3PO representing Tatooine, Fett representing Bespin and Vader for Endor. I really want those posters, but for the price I cannot rationalize buying them.

Olly Moss, really cool set of posters those are.

I've yet to pick up any Mondo posters, I've not even tried...it sounds like it's a challenge to get one at first offering, but they're are a lot of great designers contributing, I'd love to start collecting them someday.
