New Pics on page 8

Hey gang,I'm starting this thread to show off my learning process in the hard world of painting. I know I'm not good but that's the point in this thread. Anyone who has helpful advice and constructive criticism.

I would like to thank Les Walker for giving me as much advice as he has. Les is a great guy and it's an honor to have him as a friend :D

I am not only posting pics of heads I painted. I'm going to post all customs. Ones I did paint and ones I didn't. Any and all customs I am showing.

Here's my Bruce Wayne custom. I did not paint this head I only got the body and clothes. I think he came out really good.

Here's my Dean Winchester from Supernatural. I did paint this one. I am having Les redo it for me.

Here's a closeup. It's blurry and I do apologize.

here's Sam Winchester. I only painted the eyes and lips on this head. I am having Les redo this also.

this is the latest head I've done. I think it's the best.

great work man. :rock
They all look great for first time painting. :rock
I've just started my self. :)
I've noticed the more I do it the more comfortable I become painting and customizing this stuff. :rock
Keep up the great work. :rock
I will have to start my own thread soon for this.

You've done what I have done.
Started as a noob on our most important figures !. :monkey4:lol
I started with my first figure , Leon the Professional.
I have Les painting the head and the clothing was a nightare to get but I got some great help from a board member.
Just waiting on the head , his pants and I'm slowly making him a base.

Your Winchester bros look great. I've only seen one episode of supernatural.:monkey3
I really need to buy the boxset... in fact I'm going to this week. :rock
Keep up the great work.

Nice of you to mention me, but you are doing all this so well all by yourself!
Bravo and keep it up! Glad to see your efforts shining for you. Don't be afraid to experiment. Just try things and look hard at how others solve what they do.

Always here for you Drew! :rock

thanks:DIt'll be a few weeks before I get any new heads up here cause I got alot of practicing to do. I want my next head to be better than the last.

From the pics of your first and most recent, I'd say your painting is coming along! The best advice for you is to just keep at it. You know, whatever anyone does over and over again, they get good at. You definitely seem to have the steady hand and keen eye needed for this hobby. What technique/paint medium do you like to use?

right now I'm using delta paints. I know they're the cheap kind but I don't see the point in buying good paints until I'm good :lol As far as technique I like to do a dark tan coat of skin then a lighter coat on that (a little more watered down so it'll be real thin and you can see the under coat without it being covered) and then I try and do a dark tan to fill in wrinkles in the forehead and cleft and things like that to get more of a all around contrast going.

They are pretty good for being your first painted heads. Much better than mine :rotfl

I use acrylics but I've seen some tutorials using chalk pastels that can be very interesting. I have to give it a try. :wave

:lol :lol don't give me too much credit! :lol I'm far from great :lol

Might i offer a bit of "constructive critiscisum"? the costuming bash is fantastic, and the paint looks stellar as well. However, there is one place that needs a little work. I'm not sure if those are truetype bodies or BBI bodies, but you should probobly consider using a different neck adapter. the heads look a little off becuase of the ones you used.
In your picture, it looks like this is the neck adapter that you used

or

Either way, this is not a good neck adapter for teh bodies, as it gives the head and neck a "telescoping" effect, and really hurts the overall look. Those necks were designed for ffigures like bruce where the head dosn't have a neck.

This is the neck adapter you want to use.

if those are truetype bodies, and you bought them retail, then you should have one for each body you purchased, connected to the bottom of the heads that came on the body. simply pull to remove them, and attach them to the headsculpts you want to place on those bodies.

thanks for the tip. The Sam and Dean are on dib bodies. Do you know where I can get new neck joints for them?

here's the custom bases I made for my Sam and Dean. I used crystal glitter as salt to circle them in salt. for those of you who don't know Supernatural that well it's a rule on the show that salt protects you from Supernatural entities and Sam and Dean have circled themselves in salt numerous times. So here's my stands :D

The brothers are on DID bodies you say? ( just making sure) How do the neck posts attach to the body, show me that, and i can help you from there, i THINK i know which necks you need to use.
