While we are on the subject of who could play who I think that obviously McKellen would have to play Gandalf again but watching the movie The Inside Man recently and I have to say that Christopher Plummer in his role would run a very close second, have a look. Specifically Images 1 and 3 in the gallery.

I think the only other acceptable actor to play Gandalf other than the superb Ian MaKellen would be Patrick Stewart. He has the gravitas of a thespian along the same lines as Ian.
