Re: My Custom 1/6th Heath Joker nearing completion, pic heavy

All told, it was just a half *** job, i had planned to do some work on the figure and had been out shopping, i got a chicken kebab on the way home (i've said it before, was TERRIBLE btw lol) and aftwerwards i just thought 'hey hang on a sec' so i cleaned the skewer up and SNAP, there i had it. Kind of ripped a part off to make the snapped edge like the movie. Didn't even paint it, just colored it in with black and brown markers. Blue for the chalked up tip. I planned to chuck it out, but it looks cool so kept it. I want myself a 1/6th pencil :p

Re: My Custom 1/6th Heath Joker nearing completion, pic heavy

hmmm and I said that custom can't keep up to the level of Hot Toys :)

I AM SO WRONG :)

Will imaresqd1 make a '89 Keaton Batman? :)

Re: My Custom 1/6th Heath Joker nearing completion, pic heavy

That would be cool now that i think about it lol
Yeah factory will never beat 100percent custom hand made, as good as it is these days. Something like DX batman however, that thing is CRAZY lol

Re: My Custom 1/6th Heath Joker nearing completion, pic heavy

Very impressive. As I've said before in other threads, I'm anti-customizing. I'm just a purist and I actually prefer my figures to look just as they did as they left the factory.

Normally when I see custom figures I find them to look really crummy and rough. Part of that could be my psychological preference for that factory "sheen" but 99 times out of 100 I look at customizations as a desecration of the figure.

A lot of times I also see individual customizers that lack focus and get married to the parts they have on order and their tried-and-true painting/mod methods and the figure suffers because they can't see the forest for the trees. I'm being critical so I don't want to be too specific but there's another thread here where several people have heavily modified 12" figures from a line by a mass-market manufacturer and in spite of the fact that the customs are far more detailed, have better tailoring etc. they all manage to look less like the characters in question than the "crappy" factory versions.

This one, on the other hand, is a masterpiece, and that's coming from someone who is no fan of Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker. I have no love for the source material itself and yet I look at this figure and I'm practically blown away by it.

This gets high marks from me because in practically every picture the figure could pass as an actual photo of Ledger himself in-costume. The only thing that gives it away in some of the pics is the scale of the surrounding items.

So yeah, regardless of the subject this custom figure displays some astonishing skill and talent and if more custom projects looked like this I could get behind the general concept itself a lot easier. When I clicked on this thread I assumed I'd see someone caking on a bunch of paint to "improve" the great work Hot Toys figures sport out-of-the-box but I was wrong. This actually is an improvement, and that's saying a lot.

Praise doesn't come any well spoken than that. Thanks very much mate, I, and i'm sure Adam appreciate the kind words very much :) Cheers and HAppy New Year all!

Care to enlighten us all on what we've missed? Because what I saw from Ledger was one of the best performances ever put on a movie screen, and certainly the best comic book character incarnation brought to life from mere ink.

Please show me where I have mistaken. I really wanna know.

Don't broach the subject. Once you invite him in to argue about TDK it's all downhill. Trust me. You don't want to go there with him.

Re: My Custom 1/6th Heath Joker nearing completion, pic heavy

Yeah let's keep that out of this thread, he appreciates the figure and it's work, and that's all it's about. Acting is a subjective matter, it's his choice what he likes and doesn't, and he shouldn't and doesn't have to explain or justify his choice to anyone :)

Actually, I would love to go there with him. Maybe he really could show me how Ledger's performance is flawed and how my eyes, ears and brain have completely deceived me. In fact I can't remember the last time they have let me down, so I personally would find it pretty freakin' awesome if I could be shown how my analytical organs can be flawed like that. I merely aim to learn something new.

But you're right about broaching, so let's just forget it.
