Build progress on my custom Avengers Diorama

How did you get that look? Do you paint on and then scrape off with a knife?

Thanks.

Layers of paint. Before the top metal colored paint goes on, I wet it down and used kosher salt [salt chip technique, I think it's called] and that kinda makes a barrier in the places it's applied. Then add a black wash to it to darken, weather, add grime. Take a toothpick, or similar, and bruch/pick away the salt areas after it dries. Some of it was gently scraping with a knife yes. I was shooting for more weathering in my mind, but I think this turned out about right.....not 'too' much.

^ Still needs some cleaning up. Lol, 'clean up' grime.

Funny, it doesn't need the flexibility, but it is very much like a roll type desk door. I used a very thin piece of styrene, and glued thick styrene over that. It will not be moving, but it could if I had a call for it.

Re: Build progress on my custom Avengers Diorama

Thanks. Lol @ your 'Last Supper'. :lol

Ha. Yeah, cheers. Was playing with a few of my IM. I was going to collect them all, but HT keep blinkin' making them! I have loads more than that, so might do a village scene next, or a D-Day landing!

Re: Build progress on my custom Avengers Diorama

Thanks.

I've been painting here and there, but it's been a busy week. Need to crack done and get it going. :p

Figured I'd better do an update before everyone loses interest :D

Working on the street today. Layer of the granite type spray paint someone suggested earlier in the thread (thanks!) and then painted a layer of a darker grey over it, after it dried. It was a touch too blue-grey. I finished painting and said "this needs stress cracks..." So, I carved stress cracks. Coming along:

I'll add a dark wash to age/weather it all when this dries.

Re: Build progress on my custom Avengers Diorama

That looks really good Craig. Are you sure you've never done this before? Your very skilled my friend.

Craig,
You've got a great eye for detail, and it's what makes the difference between a basic stick figure and a Pixar masterpiece. Take all the time you need to complete it, it will be worth the wait.

Re: Build progress on my custom Avengers Diorama

Will do :)

Me and Nat are just having fun. [at least she hasn't sent me any threatening PMs yet :cuss]

Re: Build progress on my custom Avengers Diorama

I'm starting to worry that the backdrop is going to look too good and make the figures look like cheap toys.
