Layers of paint. Before the top metal colored paint goes on, I wet it down and used kosher salt [salt chip technique, I think it's called] and that kinda makes a barrier in the places it's applied. Then add a black wash to it to darken, weather, add grime. Take a toothpick, or similar, and bruch/pick away the salt areas after it dries. Some of it was gently scraping with a knife yes. I was shooting for more weathering in my mind, but I think this turned out about right.....not 'too' much.
^ Still needs some cleaning up. Lol, 'clean up' grime.
Funny, it doesn't need the flexibility, but it is very much like a roll type desk door. I used a very thin piece of styrene, and glued thick styrene over that. It will not be moving, but it could if I had a call for it.
How did you get that look? Do you paint on and then scrape off with a knife?
