Re: Build progress on my custom Avengers Diorama

Worked a couple hours last night, but nothing that was impressive enough for a photo. :)

I'm chewing on how to be able to remove the lid, yet have a 'ledge' for my lighting around the rim.

The case is huge, so I'm wanting to be able to remove the front glass too to be able to work on things etc.

Re: Build progress on my custom Avengers Diorama

Looking good.

I see you decided to frame the top glass part instead of going frameless?

Great work so far Craig! I love these type of threads, seeing what people come up with is always more fun than waiting for release dates/complaining about flaws!

Thanks :)

I'm still chewing on how to pull it off to where I can access everything, yet it's stable. The 2x2 tie ins are just to keep any warpage from happening while I finish.

Lol :) Glad you are enjoying it. About to go work on it.......right......now.......

Re: Build progress on my custom Avengers Diorama

You could make 4 sides out od 1/4 glass connected with silicon the way a aquarium is built, most glass shops will do this for very little money in addition to the glass that you will have to buy from them.

Obviously the base will be wood but you can also use a piece of plywood for the back

It could be a hinged so that it hat opens downward to give you access to change your display and it could be hidden by attaching a printed back ground to it.

This would be heavy so it would have to be on wheels to get it in and out without knocking everything over.

I assume this will be against a wall so there really isn't any reason to use glass for the back panel anyway

Yeah, against a wall. There will be the 1st Avengers poster backdrop you see in the Hulk/Loki pic [ but 50" wide :) ]

That looks absolutely fantastic! Can't wait to see more photos on the progress ;)

Thanks. I'm really happy with that......the energy is there in the poses. Should look great in the final scene.

Great work on this. I am looking forward to the finished product.

Thanks.

I figure out my lid issue tonight. I had the wife help me hold up my lighting kit in it, and that kinda spurred me to what needs to happen. Got in 4+ hours of work on the case tonight after work. Pleased so far.

Tonight's work: Disassembling it to router the glass slots in the top half. Re-assembled and finalized all the base: including nailing the base platform, and the display area platform. And as said finally figuring out my lid. The two center runners will be where the light bars go, routed with slots so you actually won't see the lights or cords [hopefully :)]. Coming along...

So now the "shoebox lid" type top will lift off, then I can pull 4 screws on the horizontal 2x2 closest to you in the pic, and then the front pane of glass will slide out.

Thanks. I'm having to get in a couple of hours every day after a full work day, so it's a slow go. :/

Have the lid finished as far as I can go, waiting on glass (tomorrow). Finished trim molding around middle and bottom. Glass will be ready tomorrow then it's time to paint it :)

Re: Build progress on my custom Avengers Diorama

Really looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

Re: Build progress on my custom Avengers Diorama

Are you using the bottom part as storage?

I think that's his plan. I think he mentioned it a few pages back.

Yes. Boxes, extra hands/parts etc.

Really looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

Me too :)

Glass is supposed to be ready today, and I should finish the door side tonight. Some sanding and nail-hole puttying and may be paint time over weekend :)

Re: Build progress on my custom Avengers Diorama

Are you putting a door on each end? If not I would suggest building a sliding tray to get to the first boxes in.
