I don't know and could very well be wrong, it's really speculation on my part but the way the Uruk-hai Scout Swordsman statue is painted makes it look like it's supposed to be the same material. Does anyone have an Ugluk to use for comparison? Really it's not that big a deal, just an observation as is my comment about the face/jaws. But I do think the feet/footwear is wrong. If you slow-mo the scene where Lurtz is walking up to Boromir, it indeed looks like he's wearing sandals.

You made me curious about this, and while the UHSS is definately wearing "sandals," it would appear Lurtz is as well. He almost looks as if he is wearing a sock of sorts, so do Uruks wear socks?! :lol

How is the paint on the boots for your Lurtz figure? Whoever painted the back of Lurtz boot/leg didn't realize where the boot stopped and the leg started. Anyone else's have black paint on Lurtz's calf?

Just ordered my Lurtz exclusive from Most Wanted Collectibles. I only had to pay for double shipping so it's easily worth it. Should have him on Monday.

Oh snap! As I was typing this my Minas Tirith arived :chew

Loki, I thought you where getting this baby through an fellow collector??
Congratz on the Minas Tirith!

Here is some good info on the Lurtz costume...

I'm still not sure he should be wearing socks for lack of a better term. I think you should see his feet through his sandals.

LOOK HERE

Also, I searched for a picture of the original Weta Lurtz that was converted to Ugluk but couldn't find on. Does anyone have a link to the picture? I'd like to get a look at his feet and footwear.

Maybe, a little, right on the edges...How far up does it go up on yours? Or, didn't they "paint between the lines", like mine.:D ...And yeah, it looks like Lurtz wears socks!

Quite a bit actually. The left leg is fine, it's just the back of the right leg so it's not noticeable in normal display position. See the pic below.

Also the other thing I noticed today was that his hair has a lot of brown highlighting. Are they all like that? I remember the hair on the Lurtz Bust and the Lurtz statue being black.

Also, since I couldn't ask anyone at Weta the next best thing to do was to ask Lurtz himself so I contacted Lawrence Makoare and according to him the breast plate was indeed steel (well actually it was plastic painted like steel).

Ummm, okay, just getting back to check messages today, but this might be my favorite thing that I have ever read here! I like how you mentioned talking to Lawrence Makoare in the same mundane, nonchalant way I might mention breathing! Very cool indeed!:bow :rock

Actually, on my Lurtz bust, his higlights were more like mud highlights. You can tell this bad boy's been swimming where he shouldn't have!

So you would say they're about the same?

LOL. It's not like I know the guy or we're buds. I just contacted him through his website. :D Although I'd love to sit down and have a few beers with him and shoot the breeze.

Fritz, I still ran that story through my head last night as I unpacked the figure! My first ever PF, and it makes collecting the 1/6 scale stuff seem like a whole different ball game.

I didn't get a chance to check him out much, but I know I will need to get some lights to throw some light up at his face. It is way to detailed and nice to let it be blanketed in shadows.

Awesome figure, and once I get over the shock, I'll post some more "oohs" and "aaahs"

Chris

Yeah, Lurtz is amazing. My mom who hadn't seen it yet thought it was one of the cooler pieces I own. I changed out hands last night for grins and will go with the bow to represent the scene where he kills Boromir.

I wonder if a lot of collectors who had refrained from buying PF before will delve into the line with this figure. I've read nothing but positive reviews from more than one site and it even got me excited enough to buy the regular version. I originally had no intentions of buying any PF figure, but now I've just ordered my first. I have a feeling that if Sideshow keeps up this kind of detail and quality in future LOTR characters, my collection will go down a whole new road. The prospects of something like an Easterling, Moria Orc Swordsman, or PEW in PF is actually quite exciting.

The PF line has serious potential. I honestly feel this line gives SS the chance to show just how good they really are. Lurtz was a great choice to start and showed a lot for a first piece. I think folks are gonna be suprised just how nice Frodo is. The PF are amazing items and if you can afford to get a few I highly suggest you get as many as you can. They just really add to any collection.

I am seriously considering buying another Lurtz, just so I don't have to make that decision.

Actually I am as well. Probably won't but I am thinking about it.
