It's a dermatophyte, similar to a fungus. Treatment isn't too expensive, but it will depend on how long it takes to resolve clinical symptoms. Treatment basically consists of some oral medications and medicated baths. It is contagious across species, meaning you and your other pets can get it *IF* it is indeed ringworm. Other infections can mimic ringworm, so your best bet is to visit your local veterinarian for diagnostic testing.

It might not be ringworm, but an allergic reaction to his food. My dog had that. It looks like ringworm. Make sure his food has NO corn and wheat isn't a good idea either.

It's not an expensive treatment. Just some antibiotics. Wash him in antifungal shampoo.

If you have a blacklight, shine it on him because if it glows, he definately has it. This doesn't work all the time though.

Thanks guys! We're going to the Vet tomorrow so we'll find out what's wrong tomorrow. Does the infection hurt or bother the dog?

Pruritus (ie "itchiness") is variable, so basically it can be uncomfortable. If left untreated, patients can develop "draining tracts." (Basically, a nasty skin infection.)

Thanks! He hasn't itched it or even noticed it! Treatment will start tomorrow after the Vet! He's my 1st dog so naturally I may be a bit over protective!

Just got back from the Vets and we got good news! It wasn't ringworm but an insect bite and a small skin infection! He'll be on anti-botics for a few days but he'll be better soon!
