I've been blessed this last week with some really exceptional collectibles hitting the doorstop. Tonight I have my third ***1/2 star review in a row, and this one should really be four for most folks. I had some specific paint issues that I bet are not consistent across the line, but I had to take them into account.

And what is this beautiful beast? It's the new 18" Alien from NECA. This is the one based on the original film, in articulated action figure form, like the old Kenner days. The sculpting is fantastic, the paint work terrific, and the articulation suprisingly good. And the best part? You get this huge, amazing looking solid figure for around $40. This isn't just one of the best figures I've seen in awhile, it's one of the best values.

You can find the review at the usual:

Thanks for reading, and have a terrific weekend!

Hey Mike, sorry for telling you that I'd be doing more reviews in the past. I had just been really busy.

I was wondering if it was going to be too late to send in my NECA AVP-R Series 2, AVP Cosbabies, and 9" Inch Alien reviews later this week. It's summer, so I know I can do it.

Great freaking review.

Crawford, you just sold me that figure !!!! I'm going to find one now.:rock

It's a beauty Shai, especially for that price.

EP2, don't worry - it's never too late. Just understand that I'm kind of backed up on guest reviews right now, with probably 6 or so outstanding. I've been swamped with stuff to do lately.

Great review Mike!
Your pics are really nice as well. It is an amazing figure and I think everybody is extremely thankful for the price point.
It's a frigging steal! Kyle and all the folks at NECA did an outstanding job. Hopefully this figure will be a great success and we'll see more aliens from the other movies sculpted and built at this same fantastic level be Kyle.
GO NECA!
Mine should arrive tomorrow and I simply can't wait to have it in hand.

I think I know what the white "paint" on the tail ridges are. I noticed the same thing.

It's paper. The soft plastic has slightly melded with the printing varnish. I noticed it when I was removing him from the packaging.

You should be able to scrape it off. I was able to mine off as well.

Lastly a tip for attaching the legs, it works A TON better to heat up the part with the hole, than the peg.

great review micheal...............between your review and the in hand pics thread (that sounded dirty :google) i can hardly wait for mine to get here.

Great review, and a great figure obviously - but damn, that paintwork on the skull is very shoddy looking. I know Giger painted his details on too, but with an airbrush, not with what looks like marker pen!

I look forward to seeing what the talented customizers on this forum can do with him.

Damned nice Review Michael. You were in the zone... :D

Question: it seems Neca got the support issue covered well with the heavier casting. Do you Think Hot toys can pull off a 1/6 Queen?

I do...

Yes, as long as they keep the support issue clearly in mind right from the start of the design.

Unlike my Balrog, who has had all kinds of wilt issues, the Alien continues to stand proudly on my desk without nary a slip.
