Great review as always. I agree the Gorilla Solider is exceptional. Dr. Zaius and Cornelius are both excellent as well but not quite as wow. Cornelius' expression grew on me. It does read as a bit stern more than quizzical, but I still think these are the best POTA figures I've yet seen and hopefully the start of a long series of releases.

Let's get some ape love going tonight with a look at NECA's new 'classic' wave of Planet of the Apes figures - Cornelius, Zaius and a Gorilla Soldier! It's pretty much all good too - you can find the review here:

Great review... although I would be a little harder on the good doctor than you were. Perhaps it's because he is my favorite character. Anyway, the sculpted bangs (which casts a shadow on his forehead wherever I display him) and the muzzle being painted the same color as his hair and NOT the rest of his face, made him the lesser of the three offerings. He looks like he dipped his muzzle in a jar of honey like Winnie the Pooh. So I would have knocked off a star on both paint and sculpting on the figure. But that's just me.

I've been considering re-painting the muzzle myself if I can match the paint they used for the rest of his face. One day....

But from the look of it, NECA has addressed the bangs issue with the next Zaius figure in wave 2. Here's hoping that the paint is better as well.

Thank you for the review Michael. For anyone that collects figures MIB, I found it difficult to find a pristine Gorilla box. The purple coloring seems to rub off quite easily.
