Anyway if the PF Lurtz is made differently, with real fabrics etc....then why are we even comparing it to a polystone statue? They're surely not the same, and both have their own fan bases, so we can't say one is better than th other in that respect.....oh I dont care let's just let it lie and talk about something else!!!! :D

Josh, placing aside any emotional ties to any given line, company or piece and simply looking at the different representations given on an objective level, one can clearly and honestly come to a logical conclusion as to which piece is considered "better". By "better" I mean a combination of quality of material used, the capture of the character's features, pose used, fidelity of detail, paint job and you can even lump in the dreaded "E-word", essence. Sometimes the decision is not clear cut but other times it obviously is.

I just disagree. I think that many of the PF are great and I think many of the SSW items are great. I might prefer the SS Lurtz to the SSW Lurtz but that doesn't mean it's better.

Using the Lurtz character as an example, (because it has been represented by both Weta and now by Sideshow), we can objectively compare the pieces and decide which is better.[/QUOTE]

SS/Weta Statue: Good sculpt, static pose, ok paintjob, not much in details, captures the essence of the character.

Sideshow PF statue: Great sculpt, dynamic pose, amazing paintjob, overloaded with detailing, captures the essence of the character.

Both pieces do a good job of representing the Lurtz character, but the PF statue is simply better.

I agree as far as Lurtz goes I think the SS version is better hands down. Does that make it so. No not at all.

Some people may like the taste of a nice Gallo wine but no one would seriously consider it better than a bottle of Chateau Lafite. ;)

I've said all I can say. I think both lines are great and worth owning both versions of characters. Hell I wanna own a 12" Aragorn, SSW, and PF why because I think all three will kick ass.

I just get tired of reading posts from those that just think the PF, CM, Attakus, etc are the end all be all and everything else sucks.

Uuuuh ok. Well aren't you the same person that posted this to begin with???

Pff, I don't know why Frodie doesnt get more love than he does. I love it. Premium format? Pff. Weta is better!

It appears you were the first to mention anything about either line being "better".

;) :D

Josh, no one has said that any piece "sucks". All that I've been saying is that when honest comparisons are made, there will usually be a piece that is better than others.

One last comparison: Do you think that the new 12" Sideshow Aragorn figure is better/equal/worse than the pre-existing 12" Toybiz version? (be careful how you answer, as there is a possibility that you may upset some Toybiz fanatics...) ;)

lol, i was hoping no-one would bring that up! Maybe I should say 'in my opinion' or, 'my preference is to Weta'. As has been said, people have their own opinions and preferences. The 'Weta is better' thing isnt supposed to be taken seriously, it was under my avatar even before SS announced a PF line, and I'm not going to change it just because it now seems it's there because I prefer Weta to PF.....which I do....but you know what I mean...

I know, I'll change it to "In my opinion, Weta is better!!!"

It's not that others are saying an item sucks in those terms but it's more reading between the lines.

I don't disagree that when compairing stuff that people will agree one item is better than others. However, that's just an opinion and doesn't make it so.

I personally feel the Aragorn 12" from SS is better than the TB version yes. Does that make it better just because I feel that way no not at all. I would bet lots of folks feel the TB version is better. It's their right to feel that way I'm not so stuck on myself that because it's PF or whatever it's better. However, there are some on this board I know feel that way though I'm not sure they will admit it publically.

I find it amazing that there is a 5 page thread comparing the merits of polystone to premium format. I find it even more amazing that I actually read through to the 5th page.:horror You folks are so passionate.
Bottom line - I buy it if it looks good to me, no matter who makes it, what it's made of or how big the edition size is. If someone releases a Fellowship Pippin statue made out of camel $hit, I'd buy it if it looked good.:joy

I feel the same Jon. Ok I wouldn't buy a Hobbit Clothed Pippin made out of crap but I agree with ya.

The PF line will be great but the edition size and cost will eventually hurt the "value" of the line. The Earlier Weta stuff had low editions which will make it more rare. We seen PF Luke and Han hits lows and Star Wars is a hugh collector market. And now we have an overload of LOTR with the 12 inch and PF coming at the same time. The hype and the value of the new LOTR stuff will never match what SSW done. It wont rise in value like the SSW stuff. But it will still be a great line.

Makes the PF that much more apealing to me, beautiful figures at an incredibly affordable price on the secondary market. If I buy them cheap as hell, what do I care if the value doesnt increase.

Actually thats how it was for the weta line when it started out, going for less than retail on the secondary market.

Yeah, there are SO many examples of a line starting out cheap, and then skyrocketing. Take a look in 2-3 years, and then make your assumptions.

Examples:

1. GG Clone War Maquettes Series 1 couldn't be given away by retailers. I used to see those for $40-50, and Padme at $80 sat around forever on SWShop. Now Padme is $500+ and the others are $150-200.

2. Early MR sabers. The Dooku, Mace, and Obi-Wan weathered were on the test drive program for as low as $200. They sat around for a long time. Good luck getting an Obi-Wan for less than $600 now. It was going for around $900 just a few months ago The other 2 are around $500 now.

3. The GG Dewback (GG's first diorama piece) was $125 or so on Ebay at one time last year. Now people think $350 is a "great deal."

I could go on and on about this. I wouldn't be so quick to judge the SW 1/4 secondary market. They could release an amazing Fett or Maul in a few months, and everyone new to the line will be trying to "backfill" with the original pieces. I'm not saying it will definitely happen, but it's highly possible.

I believe totally that the SW and LOTR PF pieces will be doing fine on the secondary market because they are simply fantastic pieces. I agree don't just assume these will always be had for cheap prices.

I dont remember the WETA line going under retail. Of course after the ROTK, and maybe during the fellowship very early on. But the thing with the SSW line is no one knew. People didn't even know SS had a web page. But this has changed. Everyone has caught on. Scalpers, collectors etc. And theres nothing wrong with it. But no one will miss it. There will be Exc. & reg. editions no ones going to have a problem getting the items. I' ll be getting the PF stuff and Lurtz looks great but I dont see it being "bigger" then the SSW line. I'm still hoping SS and WETA team back up for the Hobbit, eventhough were talking a few years it would be bigger than any other news thats been released.

The problem with the Star Wars PF is the paint apps, that might of killed the line, because there was alot of bashing over that.

As far as GG clones wars, thats a great line. People caught on too late, good edition size too. Same goes with the GG Harry potter bust, I see that hitting the $500.00 range soon. Get it now if you can and happy hunting.

I got my RWOS for around $200 shipped, I just cant believe I passed on the other big guys "you want $300 for that?" D'oh!!!!!:banghead
