Neill Blomkamp directed Half Life.

They've started spamming the youtube ads now. It does look like the games right down to the camera work, they could be cutscenes but the overall story seems thin or at very least this trailer did an atrocious job of giving it to us in any compelling way.

What I wouldnt give for a Duncan Jones/Neil Blomkamp and Valve teamup. A Half Life and Portal movie or even a proper Legend of Zelda. So many video games and it just seems like no one gets that it's all there waiting to be made into successful movies. Even Doom could have been great if they could just get the studios to take it seriously which is why I think Valve has the best chance having stated they would do it "inhouse" like Marvel has. Frankly the comic films are getting really stale and I'd welcome the new genre.

:clap

I think they chose NFS simply to cash in on the F&F boxoffice success. But at the same time, whoever is in charge did their homework and isn't just using the name. This does look like cutscenes and is invoking a great sense of nostalgia in me. The first 6 NFS games didn't have stories to them. Not sure if later installments added them. The movie makers pretty much have free reign over that. I liked that the trailer doesn't give much away. I have no idea what this movie is about.

This discussion has piqued my curiosity enough to give this a chance as a Redbox or Netflix rental.

NEED FOR (Practical) SPEED | Badass Digest

I played few of the games in the past and despite having cool visuals and starring Aaron Paul I wasn't really keen about the Need for Speed movie.

But now I read this article and learned that director Scott Waugh who has been a stunt coordinator and stunt performer most of his life, made sure that all the car stunts in the movie were practical and not CGI.

His dedication to real stunts and all things practical has won me over, so now I will be definitely watching this in the theatres. Do read that whole article which also mentions how Aaron was behind the wheel as much as possible. And I am digging this new full trailer.

Saw this trailer in the theater the other day. Looks fun. Have no interest in racing games though. You can tell their definitely trying to cut into the F&F market.
