And that Marion dress is awesome! Really well done. Would love to know where you got that.

100% handmade, one of a kind. Ben made it using two different fabrics and painted the little dots on. The bow in the back was made by a family friend. Ben's really, really good at this.

Here is my Sallah. He needs his shovel and torch, but otherwise, I think he is done.

Awesome Marion nightgown/dress.

question: are we certain Sallah wears boots in the movie? Hes certainly wearing them in that one black and white photo off screen, but theres another pic in the complete making of book that shows him in black leather sandals (though again, off screen).

Also Im vaguely certain I remember Sallah wearing sandals as he stickin a crowbar into the big slab with the other workers.Ill check right now

Look at the scene where Sallah climbs out of the Well of Souls right before Belloq shows up. Boots.

Or the scene where he lowers Indy into the hole. Clearly boots.

Or when they're walking before Indy ducks into Marion's tent. Or just about any full body shot. Yep, boots.

Also, the Hasbro 3 3/4" got it right. Boots, not sandals.

Well, not as successful as my torch -- the dye colors seem to change somewhat once dry; had a good tan/gray color and now have a very warm sand color -- but here's my rough essemble of the outfit...

The sash isn't dark enough. I over-padded the belly. Need to get more gray into the tunic gown. Lots of work to do still. And I thought I had it done last night. Damn.

just checked it. Youre right he does have boots on the way out, but when they bring the pry bars in, hes wearing the sandals. Unless theyre not his feet, though the audio of him grunting I feel suggests its a shot of his feet and pry bar. haha oh continuity. Maybe he changed his sandals to boots for the rappel down, which is what a a sane person would do.

But Im sticking to the boots though since I just found a pair

Maybe these colors once dry will work better:

BTW, LES, or anyone who's painted their shovel dowel, what's the best wash color mix?

Thanks in advance.

What color mixture did you use for the die on the clothes?

I am not sure what colors I will be using for my shovel yet but most likely a darker brown base and then dry brush it with a lighter brown. Not going to get too fancy with it.

Hi All

Wor-Gar - Mate I think the padding is perfect and to be honest I like the lighter colours but thats just me.

As for the shovel give the dowel a wash over with burnt sienna and leave it for a few seconds then wipe away the excess. Once dry give it a very light dry brush of Games Workshop snakebite leather.

Re the shovel, Hemble's on. Or use Burnt Umber (my favorite go to color. Just do what he says and wipe! This can be repeated as needed if you do it while wet. But try his combo. Sounds good to me.

And Sallah's attire looks PERFECT to me. Or like it will be. Dead on. Rock it!

Thanks, Ron!

The pictures don't look too bad but in hand the tunic is very pinkish/flesh color. Just looks wrong once I compare to the movie. I hope my new dye attempt will dry a better shade. We'll see. But thanks for the props.

Thanks, Les. I do think adding the gray helps match the source better. I always think of his tunic as tan, but when I hold the figure up to the movie playing, it sure looks like a worn tan/gray. Anyway, hopefully I didn't screw it up.

And thanks to both for the shovel advice! :bow I have burnt sienna but not burnt umbra. But I'll give it a go.

Hey guys, here's a question ...

What's your take on Sallah's waist wrap? Is it a closed loop, like a cumberbund or a belt ... or is it like a sash that knots and has ends dangling?

Hmmm ... think it might be time to watch the movie again.

Sounds like a fine excuse to fire up the DVD player, the surround sound and the plasma!

I was going with a sash that ties. Mine came out too stiff so I need to re do it. Problem is, in the movie, some stills it is completely flat, while others it is ruffled almost. Hard to tell the cut of the sash.

Thanks, man!

I was thinking knotted sash as well. In fact, I was leaning towards doing it that way even if it wasn't screen accurate. I think it just looks better with a couple ends hanging down. (Kinda like his turban, now that I think about it.)

Good luck with yours! I'd go with ruffled. I say, the more texture the better.

Cheers!
