Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I just love how WhoNA plays cute little games when it comes to revealing a price. It's like they want you to wait until they get it in before doing so. In the meantime everyone else sells out and you're forced to buy through them. That's awesome customer service I tell you. I bet they hit us with a $199 price. I urge anyone to get it through TFAW while you still can. Lock in that $159.99 price.

Geez, just buy it somewhere else then. Who cares? They have explained very thoroughly why they have to wait on the pricing. They've done the same thing for YEARS AND YEARS as a successful business. I understand not everyone loves that, but it's not like it should be a surprise. They aren't playing "cute little games" they are being honest. As a small, niche business they have to factor in their total costs to set prices.

I buy a ton of stuff from them, but there are definitely times I have to shop around. I also find their policy of not doing pre-orders annoying at times, but I understand their reasoning too. I don't understand the point of *****ing about it. It's the way it is and what they have to do to run their business. No one is FORCING you to wait to buy from them.

I can tell you right now, while they are usually fairly competitive (and do offer below MSRP in most cases and are certainly more competitive that BBTS or Entertainment Earth are for Who stuff) it's VERY unlikely they will offer it below $160 that TFAW is selling it for. And if it is magically lower than TFAW and you've ordered from TFAW, it's still a choice you made and not their fault for not telling you the price right away.

WhoNA offers amazing customer service, which is why I do a bulk of my shopping with them. But I've not been anything but pleased with TFAW either. So I think people are in good shape either way they go. The reason I, personally, am planning on splitting my two orders between them is that even if I pay a bit more with WhoNA I like to support a business that sold Who merch LONG before it was "fashionable" to sell Who merch - when it was all hard to get imports. And if Who ever falls out of favor again, I'd like them to still be around to do that again.

Yet Mikes Comics continually knows how much an item is going to be prior to receiving it and continually crushes WhoNA's pricing. They are a much smaller company as well. So I don't buy it that they have no idea how much they will charge for an item prior to receiving it.

Oh don't bring Mike's comics into it. They can afford to advertise prices because once you preorder with them it is locked in and they don't forgive easily. Mike's comics is ca ca imo. :lecture

But you can preorder, yes? Why would you want to back out of a preorder? Last I heard knowing a price and being guaranteed an item is a good thing. Oh and also, what's "ca ca" about not being charged more for a variant? There's no reason for WhoNA to charge extra for a variant figure when it doesn't cost them anymore than a regular figure.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I would hate to rehash my crappy experience with them. Suffice it to say they offered something on their site long before it was ever even officially announced and a year later when it actually came out (though not quite exactly what the original order had stated and I had it already in my hot hands from someone else) they put the order through, no email warning me to get have funds ready, no friendly reminder email. Woke up to having money gone from my account and they refused to refund me (before they had even shipped the bugger out).

WhoNA's relative flexibility and genuine friendliness is why I almost exclusively order from them. Their site is also easier to order from without having to email and re-email shipping/credit care info with each order.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

The problem is that Mike's can choose to fill a pre-order with a different product entirely from what you ordered if it contains the same character at leisure. That's why I don't order with them any more, though I will say they are a REALLY great company overall with attractive pricing. Not for me any more, but I'd never tell anyone not to order from them as long as they realize that you can order a product in one context and then they'll send you a different product that THEY decide is equivalent without any notice.

In any case, different businesses have to run things differently. Once a business explains why they do the things they do, you have a choice - order from them or don't. But don't make them out to be bad people just because they aren't doing what you want them to do.

By the way Jon, are you able to get on WhoNA's forum?

If I tell Mikes that I want a River Song with corrected hair or an 11th Doctor with a white shirt then that's what I get. There's no sending me a figure I didn't ask for. Oh and variant or not, I get get charged the same.

I don't understand what you are talking about with the variants. Can you expand upon that?

Chase figures or hard to get figures such as the grey Silent figures with lightening effect hands or Idris.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Oh ok. I wasn't interested in those so I didn't mind I guess. I can see how that could be annoying though.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

There aren't enough references in this thread to British popular culture which no one outside of Britain will have heard of.

BC, how about doing Morecambe and Wise?

Eric could come with a raincoat and cap... Ern would have short fat hairy legs, and his accessory could be Angela Rippon!

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

This is going to be a great week for figures. But not such a great week for the wallet. Luke and The Doctor. Shipping the same day. Oy vey! :lol

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I left this thread for two weeks hoping to see a sea of 10 and 11 pictures and nothing!

:gah::lol

We haven't heard so much as a peep from BC in over 2 weeks. It's pretty frustrating. :impatient:

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I'm getting a bad feeling about this line progressing.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Be patient folks!!!!

In this line of collecting, we know that 2 weeks is a miniscule period of time. People are now starting to get their #11, so let's just see what happens.
