Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!
Hey BigChief, can you tell us how tall the Doctor figure will be?

With hindsight I think I was trying too hard to like Nu-Who after Tennant left and got caught up in the hype of the new era.
Smith has brought nothing original to the role and is only marginally more convincing at being "manic" than Tennant.
Like 10 he does the exact same schtick every single bloody week....there's no variety in his performances which makes him very predictable and that, combined with the awfulness of Pondscum, River bloody Song and the storytelling style is why I stopped watching.
pixle is right. Good. You don't like the new era. Good for you, just let us "Not-Who" enjoy it and get the hell out of this thread.
I'm cool with bcm's opinion on the show ..there his own personal views after all. Not a fan of being called a non-fan but we all step over the line at some point and i'm sure he knows this.
I hate to say this, but do you not think you might be attaching a little more 'gravitas' to the earlier 'Doc' portrayals than perhaps they deserve. I loved Pertwee and Baker, but I can still see what they did for what it was... i.e play a character (pretty well) in a low budget kids/family tea time show. It's not Shakespear, its not Tolstoy, hell, it's not even Poliakoff, but it does its job.
Basically it entertains while trying to get kids to think about deeper issues... why we are here, what it means to be human, what we can learn from history, where will it ultimately take us?
But at the end of the day its a family show... meant to entertain families... and it does that very well (just look at the figures... meaning ratings rather than dolls), it answers the brief, and as far as I am personally concerned the Moffat stuff has proved far superior to the RTD stuff. My kids love it, and as a byproduct so do I. Just my opinion.
Yeah. bcm is like the 6th Doctor. He's abrasive, outspoken and occasionally obnoxius, but he's a good guy at heart.
And hey, at least he never killed anyone with a cyanide soaked rag... at least not that I'm aware of.
I can no longer be in a building if it's on. That's just the way it is.
Are you joking? ..i wouldn't be surprised!
On another note ,what did you think of Christopher Eccleston as 9?
Of course I'm joking!....or am I?
For the 35 seconds he wasn't shoved into the background in favor of the only Dr Who actress capable of beating Katy Manning in a "Who's got the hugest mouth" competition I thought Eccleston was FANTASTIC!
Too bad he wasn't given the chance to really shine.

I'm agreeing with bcm on 9. Except for the background stuff. He was fantastic. Too bad Christopher didn't want to do more seasons. I loved him lots.

He was given the chance, he just wanted to move on. For me he was the weakest of the 'Nu-Who' Docs, I couldn't buy into his portrayal. Just my take on things, as I liked Eccleston as an actor ('Our Friends In The North' was briliant) and his acting in Jude (The Obscure) was genuinly moving. But I found him too frenetic and not eccentric enough. Hence why I prefer Matt's more measured tone, whilst obviously being 'completely hat stand'!
