Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

(If the seller of that 1:6 TARDIS on eBay is from Northern Indiana, get it if you can- his police boxes are lovely, sturdy pieces.)

I have one of him on the way as we speak. Looks amazing.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Or for those of us whose family incomes are, shall we say, erratic...I desperately want to see this business venture happen, but don't know how much I'll be able to contribute toward it.

Still, the fact that a good licensed line is on the way makes me happy.

Yeah, you and me both. :)

I've signed up to their email list and asked If they'd consider making a Capt Jack Harkness, which is one of the main figures I'm after them to do. *shudders at the memory of that damn Tonner doll*

Hell If nothing else I know Barrowman has a big hard core fanbase and they'd just eat that figure up. :lol

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I really want to be excited for this, but I just can't be. Please understand, Big Chief, we've been down this road before with other companies: Character Options, Weta, Iconic Replicas, even Tonner (not that there was any real hope there).

I'd like to say I'm rooting for Big Chief, but I'm afraid I'm far to cynical at this point to honestly say I'm excited. :monkey2

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

The CO 1:6 stuff never appealed to the adult collectors market because of a few reasons that I can think of (I am sure there are more)

1) Character Choice: Cat Lady? Clockwork Robot? Really?

2) Crappy Bodies

3) They were the equivalent of HASBRO in quality. Who really likes collecting Hasbro 12 inch? Not me anymore.

4) Availability. The 10th Doctor was tough to find and who wants to collect a Doctor Who line with NO DOCTOR?

WELCOME TO BIGCHIEFSTUDIOS - I'm sure you'll find this forum to be a great resource for interacting with fans.

I agree with you but the Clockwork Robot was actually a great figure. And the other aliens would all decent, although certainly not SSC or HT level.

I think there is definitely room for high end Who collectibles. GI Joe collectors have moved from the cheap toys to higher end collectibles with great success.

I have to admit I did get all the CO 12" figures, and on the whole I liked them. They were what they were which was kids toys. I liked the RC Daleks and I agree with Dave the Clockwork Man was well done, as was the Judoon captain (though sadly lacking in articulation).

This has got me excited though, and having had a sneak peek it's looking pretty impressive so far.

And was this posted yet?

BIG CHIEF STUDIOS ANNOUNCE LICENSING AGREEMENT WITH BBC WORLDWIDE FOR DOCTOR WHO FIGURES

BIG Chief Studios Ltd. is proud to announce a licensing deal with BBC Worldwide to produce a range of high-end collector 1:6 scale figures and 1:4 scale mixed media statues, based on the flagship TV series Doctor Who. The agreement includes rights for both the current series starring Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor and the classic series’, from the very first Doctor William Hartnell, through to David Tennant.

Initial product offerings will include highly detailed 1:6 scale versions of the Doctor (Matt Smith) and his companion Amy Pond (Karen Gillan). Both figures will be fully articulated for maximum poseability and will feature authentic hand-painted character portraits, finely tailored costuming, signature accessories and themed display bases. To complete the first wave, other popular characters including Rory Williams and River Song will be released.

Key monsters and aliens from the hit TV series will also be released. Additionally themed 1:6 scale dioramas depicting the sets from the show will be introduced for collectors to create displays for their figures.

The Definitive Edition 1:4 scale mixed media statues utilize a blend of non-articulated, pre-posed figurines with authentic character portraits, fabric costuming and themed display bases. Select statues will also include light-up display features. These museum grade pieces will be the ultimate collectable for fans of the Time Lord.

BIG Chief will begin offering the first two character releases in Q4 2011, both direct to consumer via their dedicated website and through select hobby and specialist retailers.

BIG Chief directors Mark Andrews and Tony Leetham said, “We are extremely proud and excited that BBC Worldwide has granted us these rights on such a key and prestigious brand. Everyone in the BIG Chief team are dedicated fans of Doctor Who, committed to delivering great collectable products, which not only celebrates the incredible new series, but also the long heritage of the franchise.”

They are a company who really understand this market and will complement our existing fan ranges perfectly.”

With the popularity of Torchwood especially now the series is being made in the US I think there's a good chance of Jack being made.

Although he'd be an easy pass for me it would be intresting to see if this company could actually capture John Barrowman's likeness because all the official sculpts there's been so far barely look like him.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Which is weird because I believe the 5" figure version was created using a scan.

Thanks for the info Wookster but It's already been posted I think. :)

Maybe he's got one of those faces that's inexplicably difficult to recreate?

Look how long it took to get a decent Harrison Ford likeness.....I hope for Jack fans that it doesn't take that long.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

The tailoring on CO's 1:6 range was excellent as well. But remember it was aimed at kids, not collectors, and the playability for the kids just wasn't there. As cool as the Clockwork Men were, how fun are they if your parents can't even locate a Doctor figure to fight them?

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Also the Daleks were neat, but they were out of scale with the rest of the figures, which was a real shame.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I have to admit I rather liked the CO figures. I mean sure they were a wee bit cheap looking, but hell they were excellent value for the price. I would have been more then happy for them to have carried on with the line, but alas It was not to be of course. :(

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Il be completly honest. All I want is a 1:6 10th doctor. Im not a big fan of Smith's portrayal, so the rest is kind of take it or leave it for me.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

This is really exciting news. I would love a premium 9th doctor. And I really hope some flattering, premium quality releases could convince Billie Piper to go along.

A Sarah Jane Smith figure would be great too.

I love my CO 10th doctor and Martha Jones. The CO toys had excellent clothing by and large and decent head sculpts. Martha Jones' jeans and jacket are some of the best fitting 1:6 clothes I have seen.

The sculpt on Martha was okay, but the expression and paint aps still screamed - "toy." And the articulation on the female body wasn't great.

I just signed up for the newsletter. I apologize that I was unable to name just one favorite Doctor so I checked them all. :D
