Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Ah, yes but packaging isn't just about being on shelves. And in fact most of the time with higher-end stuff it's just as much about the after-purchase reinforcement of the brand and the feeling you've bought something of quality or that is special. Believe me, I know, it's my job! :) Well, part of my job.

To be honest, I think it's fine. It's nice enough. It's nothing flashy, but frankly I'd rather they spent their time and money on making the figure awesome and not worry so much about the packaging so I'm fine with it.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I'm one who likes dark backgrounds with a bright logo. I go to the warehouse of my local figure and statue store and I look around and I look for logos. So that's what I like about it, then. Also, it'll look good if the figure is infront of it. It'll bring out the detail more, but that's just me.

All in all, I like the packaging. I hope the box will be strong.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I didn't think my post was uncivilised. At all. Plus it was the first time I said anything on the matter after seeing all of this unfold.

To go back on topic. Amy's the same price as the Doc. From the pics I'm not too sure about her.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Following on from ink's post, guys please seriously play nice. Everyone's entitled to an opinion. Believe us it is very hard for us to read many of the posts and not reply. But at the risk of the thread turning into a bun fight, we refrain from doing so. Forums are wonderful places for people with similar passions and interests to share their thoughts and opinions, but all to often threads become havens for "he (or she) who shouts the loudest".

To clear a few things up:

Expansion Packs - this is a new/old idea that we hope will prove successful and will offer collectors the opportunity to purchase additional costumes and accessories at lower costs than purchasing a whole new figure, for what would otherwise be relatively minor changes. eBay sellers have been breaking down figures for a while now and selling the component parts separately, so we hope fans will embrace the options. Over time there will be a number of packs.

Toy Fair prototypes - in hindsight we should have only displayed the prototypes on day one, the only day we could attend. The figures were being very kindly displayed for us by a friend. Unfortunately when the figures were put on display the following day, they were not posed correctly.

Paint ops - bear in mind that the heads are resin, not PVC cast out in a base flesh colour with tones added. That said the prototypes have been beautifully hand painted and when photographed under proper lighting, or held in hand, look stunningly life-like.

Jacket - the prototype is wearing one of our first working sample jackets. This was sewn from a special inkjet fabric on to which the correctly scaled tweed pattern was printed. This fabric paper is very tricky to work with and is not colour consistent. It also rubs off with constant handling, hence why there are areas where the print has worn away. Rest assured the final product will be the correct colour and of a quality that collectors have come to expect.

Amy Pond - we are working on final product shots right now and will be posting these very soon. Her jacket is just breathtaking. The detailing is fantastic. Just wait until you see the correctly scaled zips.

Packaging - mock-up packaging was on display, not final. As a new company we know that it is important for our customers to be able to see the figures straight away, hence why we have chosen to proceed with a window pack. Hot Toys produce some of he very best packaging for their products, but then they have been established for a good while longer than us and we are all to well aware of their quality, they have nothing to prove. We do period. It is important that people can see the quality of our products just by opening the front flap. That said we will be utilising matt laminate finishing with foil blocked logos and product titles. Our packs will be of a high quality and in time, once everyone is aware of our product, we will look at alternative pack designs.

As always we thank you for your support. We are working flat out to make the best product that we can. All we ask is that you give us the chance to do just that.

The BIG Chief Team

Nicely written reply BigChief. I for one am very much looking forward to your 1/6 figures. Thanks for taking the time to clear things up.
All the best with your work, and hurry up with that 4th Doctor ;)

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I've heard it from many manufacturers that they don't let their artists go on forums because of some of the hateful things people post. As I've always said, differing opinions can be posted without it devolving into a flame war. Personally I think collectors feedback is valuable to most companies if they can sift through the honest opinions and ignore the left-fielders who may voice their opinions strongly, but aren't really in the majority.

I"m sure BigChief is interested in what we have to say - but bashing, and constructive criticism are two different things.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Awesome post BC - sounds good. Finishes really do a lot for packaging and what you describe sounds very nice. I actually like the idea of something different than Hot Toys (who don't always have the greatest packaging, let's be fair) as I think it's good for a new company to sort of blaze it's own trail.

Can't wait to see how it all comes together. I've gotten more and more psyched! Even if the posing is a little funny and the hair a bit wild in the pictures, I think it's clear that the figures themselves are lovely.

Can't wait to see the first pictures of the production figure. I think people are going to really jump on this even more than they have once they see those.

Flesh toned resin..nice!, I'm not so worried now about the paint app.

1/4 scale statues, anything, any time soon ?

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I like the new box. It's a shame that the figures weren't presented better though.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Most of the Asian ball jointed dolls I have are flesh resin and they can look really gorgeous! Nice luminous quality!

From the toy fair pics, what's that vinyl stylized tenth doctor? Looks like fun!!

Still very much looking forward to the 11, expansion-packs and the upcoming 10th doll/figure!

( and still hoping Billie will approve a Rose Tyler!)

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

The vinly figure is part of BC's Dynamix line and it DOES look cool! I'm sorely tempted now.

The resin thing sounds interesting! Is there a good example of another figure people can think of that use this technique so I can look up a pic or two?

I wasn't sure from BigChief's post that the production figures will use the intrinsic paint application - but if they do- that's fantastic. Most HT figures are done that way now.

But I think the best example is the SSC German soldier PF.

That exactly why I think the expansion packs will do well. At least I hope, anyway.

Thanks, Big Chief, for working so hard on these figures and trying out some new ideas in the process.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Big Chief has to be one of the companies with the biggest testes. We've had weapon packs for our military figures and clothing sets seperately but not many packs for specific figures. More companies need to do this.

I do hope for a pack that has just the regular outfit. I already have a 4th Doctor in red outfit, so a normal outfit is very welcome.

A Big Thanks to The BIG Chief Team!:clap:clap

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Some great modding going on in this thread - I always seem to miss the mod-deleted crapstorm that breaks out here every few days for no good reason at all. Well done guys, and a big thank you to BC for posting here.

Do you guys ever talk to any of the other Who licensees like CO? I'm sure they'll have some great stories for you of the lunacy they've had to put up with.

Like release a TARDIS playset with the regular figure and the lego figure. :slap

The BC figure teamed up with the TARDIS playset FTW. :lol

What WOULD be nice, are those newest trading cards I have hundreds of. Exclusive cards with the figures. :exactly:
