New iPhone to run on a new 3D graphics chip & faster-speed network. Mid-July release

Kotaku.com got a tip that...

Next week at Apple's annual World Wide Developers Conference the company will be unveiling its new iPhone, a device that will sport a built-in 3D graphics chip, operate on a new, higher-speed network and hit mid-July, sources tell Kotaku.

Our sources told us that the new iPhone will also tout much more robust Bluetooth support, an upgrade that will allow third-party developers to to release add-on products like a keyboard or game controller.

The new network, which AT&T is currently working on, in theory may also allow AT&T to extend its exclusivity deal with Apple.

Both the new iPhone and the new firmware for the current iPhone will roll-out on July 17, sources tell us.

This rumor comes as word hits that Apple is also starting to hire in-house game developers.

The inclusion of the 3D graphics chip and hiring of developers are, in many ways, Apple's acknowledgment of the growing importance of gaming to the platform. Another thing the developer is considering to help bolster gaming on the iPhone include the possibility of a new store dedicated solely to gaming. The company will also be watching with great interest the roll-out of in-game microtransactions with the latest firmware.

We were unable to confirm any of this beyond our sources, so take this with a grain of salt and keep your fingers crossed for the big announcement hitting this coming Monday. We've contacted Apple for clarification on the matter.

Good for those who buy games and apps on their iPhone.

Re: New iPhone to run on a new 3D graphics chip & faster-speed network. Mid-July rele

Once again I get bit in the ass for being an early adopter, but my brother is going to be absolutely pissed to hear this as he just bought his iPhone 3G last week, broke it, and had to pay $200 to have it repaired.

I leave for WWDC in 2 days! :rock Here's hoping they'll have prototypes for me to play with. :emperor

Well, if the latest rumors of a 3D graphics chip are true, then Flash support is a done deal.

Either way, July 17 here I come. :rock

Is everyone really concerned about the Flash just because they want it to be a full browser? I guess my main sites that I visit do no contain that much Macromedia Flash or they are still functional without the Flash working...

:lecture It's Adobe Flash now. :lecture

And I agree, I don't run into problems not being able to browse flash content on the web, but Flash would open up a new (and easier) way to develop apps and games for the iPhone.

It does hinder. Sideshow's videos aren't viewable because they are Flash embedded. Sites like Hulu and other sites along those natures which depend on embedded Flash video just show up as blue question mark boxes. Enabling Flash allows not only full browsing of sites but opening up of sites that weren't applicable before. I'm not due for an upgrade for another year but I might bend and buy this one early.

so this happend yesterday :banghead and well,i guess i'm now ready for the new version :lol it sure makes it easy to upgrade.

I can see it being annoying and I don't blame others for wanting everything to be enabled. I got my fiancee a IPhone about 6 months ago and she loves it. I'm still with Sprint right now and have a Instinct, I will have to wait it out and let the contract go another year but I'm glad that I've waited since the V1.0 to get one and would definitely want something with a full blown browser.

This does make it interesting and makes it more appealing to me more than ever.

Last time they did this, everyone who bought an iPhone within 6 months was able to trade their phone in free of charge. 6 months to 1 year got a credit towards a new one. I'm crossing my fingers for that I bought mine last year...

I have a tent while I'm.....or wait nevermind read the post wrong.

Monday should be interesting, especially if Jobs is back in action.

Looking forward to the new OS, as well.

Ouch. I think I'd pass out from total heartbreak if that happened to me.

I have a iPhone 3G that I got almost a year ago when they launched. I'd like a newer version but I think I'll wait till I'm eligible for an upgrade so I don't pay $400 again.

Dude I have an iPhone horror story.

Had mine for a week and the backlight was going out. ATT store would do absolutely nothing to replace it as everything needs to go through Apple.

The two *********s in the store who were positively gay for each other practically touching each others butts while I tried to get my problem fixed were useless. ********* Manager and Assistant ********* Manager.

Apple got on the phone with them and asked them to exchange me a phone since it had only been one week and obviously a manufacturer defect. They refused to do it.

In short I told Apple I am returning my iPhone for refund now, and will never buy another one, stop using iTunes (a 50 or so dollar a month habit), never buy another Apple product again.

I told the *********s swinging from each others ballhairs that if they insisted on charging me the restocking fee for the iPhone I will not only not replace my phone there I will quit ATT altogether. They charged me the fee, I closed my account. A manager closes a 100 dollar a month account over a 50 dollar restocking fee Im sure he could have waived.

I will admit if the iPhones fragility (and it is very, very, fragile) doesnt bother you it is the best phone there is. No touchscreen compares. But is it worth dealing with ATT?

Interesting story. Every person will have different experiences. For me, when I got mine I was eligible for an upgrade, my wife was not for some reason even though we opened them at the same time, the assistant manager at the AT&T store near my house got on the phone and worked with them to find a way to get her upgrade to show in the computer. After a couple of months I noticed that our bills were getting progressively higher so I called, they found out that my wife's unlimited text has been taken off as well as unlimited data, so the bills were racking up, the customer service agent went through each bill back to the moment I got my iPhone and she got here and refunded the charges over a four month period.

For me they've always been aces.
