No they shouldn't have. Cap had his rounded shield when he joined the Avengers in issue 4.

As for the set up, its just something geeky to do to show off the Avengers so far. In reality, the Classic Iron Man is the most accurate to show although its off.

Iron Man's mask should be the pointed tips version and Hulk left the Avengers in Issue 3 before Cap joined. So take it for what it is, just a geeky way to show off stuff.
