Anybody pick this up yet? I probably won't be getting it until after the holidays, but I'm wondering what everybody's first impressions are so far.

Seems like a crime to not have online multiplayer with voice chat, but I guess Nintendo is really pushing the party experience.

edit: I should specify this is about the Wii version that just came out, not the DS one that's been out for a while

It looks good, probably will give it a rent I haven't played wii in forever.

Yea I wish they did more with online multiplayer, like make more games have it like Mario Party and Wii sports, add voice etc I would def play it more.

My local Fry's Electronics store has it for $10 off, so I'm pretty tempted at the moment. I have a handful of games to buy and play that will fill my time (and games budget) for the rest of the month: L4D2, Assassin's Creed 2, RE: Darkside Chronicles, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, so I don't know if I should pick up New Super Mario Bros. Wii until the holidays, when I can play with the younger family members (yearly family gathering on Christmas).

I'm okay with it not having an online multiplayer option. I have a bunch of friends in proximity that I could play with (lucky me, I guess), but I don't think multiplayer in this game is the draw for me. I've read a few reviews, and most say that the multiplayer is a decent diversion, but like other mainline Mario games, it's best played alone.

Picked it up today, but it's a gift for the wifey... Curious as to what people are thinking as well.

My roommate bought it today, and while it was very fun (we played straight through, took us about 9 and a half hours) I have to say, now that we've beaten it, I don't really have much desire to play through it again.

Playing through with a 3 other people is fun, but a bit frustrating, as you run into each other a lot and bounce off each others heads, sometimes sending them into the abyss, but it's still a lot of fun.

My roommate said he's gonna trade it in, because Eb games is doing a thing where if you trade it in within the first week of its release you get 30 bucks for it.

my verdict should it matter to you: really fun, definitely play it, but rent it.

So technically if he's going to trade it in within a week, he paid $20 just to rent it...for one week?

I haven't bought it yet, but I imagined this would be a keeper mainly because of the multiplayer mode. I can only speak for myself, but it seems like the game that you can break out with family or friends in the same situation in which you could bring out other Nintendo party games like Mario Kart, Mario Party or Wii Sports.

You guys did go through it really fast though. 9 1/2 hours? Reviews I've read ballparked around 12 hours + lots of replay value.

He should have sold it on Ebay! :lol

Man, places like EB run a good scam... that is a damn expensive rental :lol

Didn't even know about this coming, I really dug the DS version, but can't say I'm ready to play through it again. Does it differ much from the DS (aside from the multiplayer) version?

That's why I always keep my receipt for VGs, I learned that with too human me and my cousin played online and finished it in a day, and I knew I wasn't gonna play it again but I threw away my receipt so I was stuck with it :monkey2:lol

the party aspect is there, and it is fun, my stance mainly comes from the fact i dont have many friends who enjoy this sort've game or family members who play video games. but if you do i'm sure you will get a lot more enjoyment out of it. and yes it was technically a really expensive rental, glad i didnt buy it.

There is some good replay value, after you beat the 8 main worlds a 9th one unlocks. our 9 and a half hours run did not include the 9th world. and there are a bunch of little videos to unlock, showing hints in world and "super skills" runs which are really awesome level playthroughs which showcase perfected playing of that level.

also this game is pretty much completely different then the DS version

I might get it second hand in the future.
It looks a bit of step backwards from Mario Galaxy
And why on earth did they not make this an online Multiplayer game?
Nintendo getting lazy again

Hey everyone. I just bought this game for my girlfriend's birthday. We opened it up and played it with a number of friends this evening for about a half hour as 4 person multiplayer. The game is really quite fun, very old school in feel and similar to the DS game. The good, the game is incredibly fun. The bad, 4 person multiplayer is hard to enjoy with even one person who either: doesn't know how to play, or plays like a champ without any thought for the other players. My two pennies anyway...

Yeah, I found this out with my wife last night. She had never, and I mean never, played a Mario game before. She kept forgetting which of the 2 buttons was jump. This game really needs to have all players at close to the same experience level to truly enjoy it.

Very late to the party on this one... but got this game last week and the wife and I have had a blast playing it. We have definitely gotten on each others nerves at times; but its been a lot of fun.

What is funny to me is that Nintendo can release (basically) the same game over and over; yet its still fun to play. Mario kicks ass :rock

I picked this up a while ago. Took it over to my sisters on Friday. Damn this game is hard on 4 player mode. We all had a blast! It's pretty damn hard though. Everyone seems to be in each others way.
