Probably just because the quality of the picture at the framerate that it was running. If it was running in HD, it's just a nice picture. I get the same from my Samsung. Watching Ratatouille on Blu-ray, felt like I was in the picture.

Really? I know I had seen some tv's that mentioned 3D effect and I thought this had something to do with it. Hmmmm. Looks like I have some more homework to do.

I did get a new HD DVD player from Amazon though. The 10 free movies were too good a deal to pass up this time.

If money is an issue, believe it or not, you can also get a Polaroid TV (I know, but trust me). They have amazing monitors and a really good reputation. Not bad prices either. Saw a 40" 1080p LCD Polaroid the other day for $1,060. Cheapest i've seen yet.

I have the Polaroid LCD 46" 1080p and its really nice, and for $1398 it was by far the best deal I could find. 2 HDMI as well, got mine at Wal-Mart after shopping around everywhere for about a month.

For Black Friday they had a 42" version of the 1080p for $800 :google

Looks like it's down to these two - any suggestions?

I can get the Sony for a little under $1600 and the Samsung for about $1660 through a contact I know.

SONY 46" Bravia

Samsung 46"

Fist off have you been able to see them side by side or at least close to each other showing same video? I would say the one that looks best to you would be the one to go with. If you don't see a difference then go by the specs.

Looking at the specs I would say Samsung. The contrast on the Smasung is MUCH higher which should give you darker blacks and brighter whites. Plus you get more HDMI inputs.

Plus the Samsung is lighter, never would have guessed.

Here is a review of Sony that I found that says fast video is smeared and has bad viewing angles.

Sorry man but that review was all wrong, my brother and I both have Bravias, he has that exact model and I've seen no 'smearing' and the viewing angles are great. That is one of the exact things I told him he should look out for.

Ok cool, I didnt know, it seemed odd to me but being it was a reliable source I figured he should be aware of it.

i don't think you can go wrong with a Sony or Samsung LCD. i have 2 Samsung LCD monitors and they are great. when my main t.v. dies I'm buying either the 46" or 52" Samsung LCD.

Ive just bought a 46" Samsung 1080p (£1139) and I am very happy with it so far even without ba DVD upscaler or HD player.
My last TV was a Sony 32" Flat screen hrt which cost £1000.I had it for three years and it broke.Sony has been the worst company I've ever dealt with as far as customer service is concerned. When I wrote to them about the guarantee they said that they would send someone out at a cost of £60 then charge me for labour and replacement parts.Needless to say I will not buy anything from them again. My two pennies!!

get a sony XBR5!!!!! 46inch Man!!! thats the ****!!! let me buy it for you and get my discount!!!!!

Yes BB discounts rock. My buddy works there I have saved $1000s of dollars by him buying stuff for me. But the discount is no where as good as it use to be. Cost plus 10% was bad ass, plus you might as well get the warranty, they are dirt cheap for employees, and then they transfer it to you later on. I think one warranty I got was about $20 and normally was almost $100.

That version of the Bravia is a bit out of my price range but I'm still undecided between the Sony and the Samsung.

Went to CC to see them side by side and while I think the Samsung looks better (not picture wise, just as a piece of furniture) they didn't have any of their HD tv's hooked up to an HD signal. ****ing stupid if you ask me. So I couldn't really compare HD picture at all :emperor

Go with Samsung dude, trust me. I've installed home theater systems in houses plenty of times, and i've seen many HD TV's while doing that. Samsung is the way to go, that's why I own one.

Buy the extended warranty from the store if you do go with Samsung. :monkey3

Well that's the thing, I'm getting it from a friend of a friend who buys them wholesale so I don't know how I'd get a warranty out of them.

Well regardless of who you get it from, if it's in the original box, it should have the manufacturers warranty in the box. You can just do that, should be fine.

I might be able to do that when I move again, but it wouldn't be worth it in the house I'm in now. 50" + would probably be too much for my current living room set up (that's why I've narrowed my choice to a 46").

Got ya. It does look weird in my living room right now hah. But oh well.
