Balrog wasn't too bad, definitely the better of the two. It's just that you lose some detail in this medium. I would much rather have polystone.

I scored the GG Animated Maquettes (Gimli, Legolas, Ringwraith & Saruman) for like $124 with tax (free shipping - woot!) I saved $225 off MSRP. Wow! That's insane. I just wish they had the Gandalf and the Witchking for 75% off. I would got those too, but alas they're not available.

I had avoided this line mostly due to $$$$, but at those prices... they're giving them away.

I woulda got some busts too, but I had them all. The Sauron for $15 is a total joke.

Congrats to all who scored. The NewLineShop took a bath on this stuff. They HAVE to have taken a loss on this 75% off stuff.

I'm still VERY tempted by those animated statues. The problem is that if I buy a few I'll want to get them all. Plus I'm put off by the fact that they are missing a lot of important characters (not the least of which is Frodo) and it doesn't look like they'll be continuing with the line.

I just got all of my stuff a few minutes ago, and I'm very pleased with it, with a few minor issues. It was really a steal at those prices. I'll see if I can take some pictures later.

OK, finally got the chance to take some photos. Let's start with the pewter Balrog. I'm pretty happy with this guy. It's a nice sculpt -- in fact it turns out that it's the exact same sculpt as the one NECA used for their huge Balrog figure (see below). I was a bit surprised by that, but I guess they wanted to get their money's worth. You can even see where the statue has what appears to be joints in the elbows where the articulation should be, although the rest of it looks normal. But anyway, it's got a nice amount of detail and it's HEAVY. Really heavy. The only problem is that my base (which is apparently made of lightweight wood) is kind of scuffed and actually has a crack in it. It's not worth getting too upset about, especially since there's no way to get a replacement, but a little disappointing. It's not a super large statue, as you can tell by the comparison with the 12" Gandalf figure, but for a solid metal piece it's pretty big (it feels bigger in person than it looks in the picture). And for $30 I have no complaints at all. I actually considered ordering another one to paint, since I got my start in painting with metal miniatures, but they were all gone by then.

Next we have the big Balrog figure. This is a seriously HUGE figure. This may in fact be the biggest toy or collectible I have. It makes the NECA 18" Alien figure look tiny. It's like my wife and I have a second child now. Did I mention it was big?

And while strictly speaking it may not be in scale with 1/6 scale figures, I think it's totally believable to pose it with the 12" Sideshow Gandalf. He comes with the flame sword and whip (not shown, since it's difficult to pose and he can only use one at a time). It also has sounds and lights, but the lights are disappointing. They flash on and off mechanically instead of just lighting up which would have been cooler. The sounds are OK, but nothing great. The figure has the kind of articulation that you would expect with a figure like this, which is to say not very good. But you can move the arms and head into different positions at least. I'm certainly happy with it for the price I paid.

Next are the busts. Sauron is really nice, and pretty large too. It's surprisingly light though -- lighter than the hobbits. I suppose it's hollow. It's got very nice detail, and for $15 it's an insane deal. I did find several stray brush hairs in the paint, but overall it's very well done indeed. I'm glad to have him since I didn't have any representation of Sauron in my collection aside from the Minimate. :lol

The hobbits are also well done. They seem roughly 1/6 scale, although they are smaller than the Sideshow hobbits (which is probably more accurate). Before you ask, the helmets don't fit on the Sideshow figures, at least without some alterations. The sculpts are pretty good as well. I like having them since now I have versions of Frodo and Sam from the start of their journey, and two near the end. I guess I need to make some weathered "road weary" ones from the middle of their trip as well.

Here's an odd question. Is Sauron vinyl? I ordered him for my wife for an X-mas present so I can't open it up and check.

awesome deal you got on the busts. I paid $40 for each of my hobbits and at least $50 for sauron. I don't know why the LOTR GG stuff hasn't done as well as the HP stuff. I like all of mine. I think I have most except maybe the pissed off blue witch one.

I actually think the Frodo sculpt is very good, but the paint is a little odd and it doesn't photograph that well (the shots I took with a flash looked really scary).

Just keep the helmet on.
