Unless it's stated in ESB that's what it's called, then it doesn't count. I don't read the comics or the books. I couldn't care less what they retcon. I don't care what a Lego box says. If a new series changes specific characters then that series doesn't count either. I still have what I like.

Unless Disney start going in and altering the OT and PT to have their own 'agenda' special editions (which they never will) then all the stuff I don't like is dead to me and I can still enjoy SW without feeling attacked.

I'm curious if you care about the old Kenner toys?

I don’t know how true this really is, but some rumors state that Disney will be

”reshooting” some scenes from the PT for either the upcoming Kenobi and Ahsoka shows or a future project. Whether this is to work in Ahsoka to ROTS or simply new scenes shown as flashback is yet to be known.

POTA was just an example that came to mind of things changing over the years.

Changes within Star Wars do cut deeper. Disney already eradicated a mass of EU material from canon, often to only replace it with things that are less in character.

They may take away our EU, but they'll never take our canon! :lol

I've long been of the opinion that head canon is superior to whatever the current license holder decides is canon. I felt the same with the PT as I was watching The Phantom Menace for the first time.
Yeah, Headcanon is obviously the superior way to go at this point. In a way, that's one of the reasons why I'm collecting all these dollies. If I get the important characters of each saga/story I like/love, then whatever happens in the actual movies/games/comics, between retcons and halfassed scripts, doesn't matter. The stories I build in my head, picking and choosing what works and I enjoy from the myriad of different sources, is what ultimately matters. Morrison said back then that capecanon didn't exist, and anything you like is canon, whereas everything else is fanfic. With comics anything beyond the original run is a glorified fanfic, so it's easier to adopt this attitude towards them. With SW it's harder, since it's a multimedia property that is highly dependent on real people and has a rigid canon, but you learn to do it as time goes on.

Disney may have gutted the EU, but it's still my go-to. I bought a Kylo Ren and I still pretend he's Jacen. Although I mostly got him because I like Adam Driver as an actor, and soddy writing aside I really liked his Kylo. I don't care about Rey at all, though the more the pendulum swang, the more she ended up growing on me, so while I might get her someday, I'm not beholden to some ST canon. If I buy an Old Man Luke, it'll be because I like the look they gave him, and because of the story I'll make up in my head. These high-end dollies give me a chance to create my own "lifelike" canon. Now if only they'd introduce Mara Jade in a Young Luke show...

Never forget, they took this from us:

Indeed. Figures on display can mean whatever you want them to mean, or represent.

I have the Hobo Luke and and Hologram Luke from the ST, because as figures they're excellent representations of the older Hamill/Luke. When I look at them I imagine them as being from some EU adventure, without any connection to the ST.

There are new designs from the new content that I really like, and which fit the aesthetic that feels right. Such as the Patrol Trooper and Mudtrooper from Solo, K-2SO from Rogue One, or the Transport Trooper from The Mandalorian. And of course the Mandalorians themselves because they have quite a traditional OT appearance.

I have three versions of Jyn Erso on display, as she's not only a good character played by an actress I like, but as figure she never dies. :lol

I even bought Dooku, in spite of my lack of love for the PT, because it was apt to have a Christopher Lee to go with the Peter Cushing Tarkin. In my head he's a dark force user existing in the OT era.

Exactly. For me, the reason why I collect these, and not statues or whatever (apart from the price difference; I can buy a 300 euro figure, but not a 600 euro statue) is that, one, they're like grown up versions of my childhood toys, two, I can justify them as the "endgame" of collectibles, where by getting a character in this format I can assure myself of my fan status, and three, their lifelike appearance allows me to pretend the stories in my head are "true". When you have them in a cabinet and they look like mini clones of the actors, you can forget what goes down in the actual movies/series/comics, and pretend that your own version is the real one. It's like a mini museum where every figure has a story and every display is a tale. That's why I think it's important to be selective, otherwise you end up with cluttered shelves that tell nothing.

I was out of the hobby during those days, so I missed out on them. But I do have them on my to-buy list, because liek you said, as designs they're great, and I can easily pretend they're representations of EU Old Man Luke, at the height of his power, as Grandmaster or whatever else. Regardless of what the ST ended up being, when I do get them, they'll represent Luke as he's supposed to be in my head, canon be damned.

I doubt I'll ever get anything from RO, apart from maybe a Krennic when I'm done with hunting down new releases and can afford to go back. For me Star Wars is about the Jedi & Sith, so everything else is of secondary nature. If I collected only SW I could keep up, but between the comic book movies and random one-offs, I am more selective. I don't even have plans to get a Han/Chewbacka/Lewis/etc anytime soon.

But I get you. When I get an HT Grievous (in 2028), he'll exist as a representation of his GenndyWars self, as the character he should've been, instead of the canon RotS/TCW dissapointment he ended up being.

I grew up with the PT, so while I can see the problems in the movies, I'm very much into the worldbuilding it created. I'll have to get a Dooku too, but I'm playing catchup with all these. I am dissapointed in his character arc, but it is Christopher Lee as a Sith Lord; he's cool by default. For me the problem here arises in how to display it all if I double dip (say both Mando Luke & TLJ Luke). SW wise I'm going Sith & Jedi primarily, but there'll be some one-offs like a Boba or something. So the pure "Jedi Vs. Sith" display I was planning won't work. I was thinking of breaking it down to Eras. PT, OT, and "EU". Or maybe mini-vignettes and the such. Dunno, I guess I'll get to it as the figures keep coming.

I went from being a hardcore Star Wars fan that loved everything and bought everything Star Wars. Every film, book, comic, video game, merchandise etc etc to being a very selective fan, a casual fan even.
I agree with Dave W, I ignore the stuff I don't want and watch what I'm interested in.
Which has narrowed down so much over the recent Disney years.
Needlessly poop stirring from weirdos on Twitter (which isn't even a real place) aside, I'm confident BoBF will be good. Putting trust in Jon, David and Robert on that one.
Kenobi I'm very likely to ignore. Frankly I just dont trust them not to ruin it. I'd rather ignore and keep Ben Kenobi as he was in ANH, on Tattooine as an old Alec Guiness and leave it at that.
I'm more likely to watch Andor. Less for them to screw up. Kenobi has important characters, Kenobi himself and Vader. Who knows who else will appear. The ST has shown they have no idea how to write the Force. So much potential for screwing up in the Kenobi show. Better to ignore it.
Andor though, less scope to make screw ups that will reverberate around Star Wars lore I hope.
Ahsoka, Mando season 3 get no questions asked viewing from me. That's it though. Which as a former hardcore fan, I find quite sad really.

Yes, I get that.

I rarely display a figure to represent a moment on film, apart from something like my ESB bounty hunters where they're lined up in the same order. In my head they're existing in moments not filmed, as representations of the character.

I changed them around a little too. I gave Hologram Luke's black robe to Hobo Luke, which makes him look a little less hobo, and more the noble Jedi.

I like the simplicity of the Hologram Luke without the robe, and equipped him with a green lightsaber.

As a child my hero was Han, rather than Luke. I liked the western style adventures he and Chewie had in the Brian Daley novels, and would imagine life aboard the Falcon, which is still my favourite ship.

I still tend towards the non-Jedi and non-Sith, apart from the big names.

I'm torn on it. Some characters I love enough to want them to be on the spotlight, but they are part of wider collections. Some are displays I want to set up. Thankfully those are still ways off, so I can still think about it. I was going to break things down by license, genre or medium, but it doesn't really work. I can put Tommy Shelby next to the Godfather, but Jack Sparrow will have to go alone. I can build my own X-Men team when the time comes. The problem is where I'd put characters with multiple costumes. Mando Luke could go in a general Jedi display, or in an OT/EU one. Where would Old Man Luke go? It's these little things that require more work.

I don't like messing with my figures too much myself. But I'm not rulling that out. If I still don't enjoy the performance by Ant-Man 3, it's very likely I'll buy an extra Christian Bale head to pop onto a Kang figure and pretend Bale played him in the MCU. But I'm generally trying to avoid customising because I don't want to fall down that rabbit hole in 1/6.

I always leaned more towards swords over guns. I liked chivalrous Knights and adventurous Swashbucklers. I got into guns as I entered my tween years, with stuff like MGS and the Punisher, but I still prefer swords. As a kid I mostly liked the swordsmen, the wizards and the geniuses. There was variation in them (ie none of the X-Men fit that bill but I enjoyed the lore and Magneto was a super-genius "science wizard" of sorts), but those were the archetypes I was drawn to. I suppose it makes sense Doom ended up winning as my favourite; he's such a mashup character he covers all of my areas of interest. I like Boba and the Imperials, but Star Wars is about the Force Users for me; otherwise it's just another Space Fantasy. I never cared for the Rebels, Chewie or Wedge or whatever else. If it doesn't have Jedi and/or Sith in it, I don't care. I like Space Operas for all the grandiose nobility and style. If I want some shooty-shoot I'll go for a modern "down to Earth" space property, like Halo or Mass Effect. Star Wars has to have laser swords for me, period.

Hurts to see that. Goes to show that KK is not a SW fan, just likes the power and to wield it her way. Sad of what I know could have been done and how epic it would have been. I try to rid myself of it now cause of all the damage that has been done and how we will never see a live action version of those characters or events. I am even bitter towards Harrison Ford for not wanting to continue his part in the 90's potentially and George having to go to the prequels. Hamill would have been able to accomplish more tales and adventures at a younger age. Should have just done a Luke trilogy and have Ford make a cameo or just ignore him if he didn't want to be involved. Feige ain't stopping his train for any one actor. Just have to move on cause dumb people get power.

KK obviously isn't a fan. That was the most evident when she gave an interview and said that, unlike the MCU, SW doesn't have things to base stories on. Then she proceeded to **** the EU and do exactly those stories but far worse. Harrison's always had hatred for SW, which I understand, but he talks **** then comes back for the paychecks, and that's what makes him a hypocrite. Like I said I never cared for the things that weren't Force related, so I wouldn't even have cared if he never showed up again. But I suppose for Lucas the story was over until he got ideas for the Prequels. Remember, he hated Mara Jade and the fact that Luke had gotten a hot redhead badass wife, as that clashed with his idea of Luke Post-RotJ. In a way, the things we like from the EU didn't necessarily jive with Lucas himself, who ignored them as AUs.

The truth is, SW canon has become too messed up. McGregor having to be the same guy as Guiness, Padme dying because of reasons, the ST screwing up everything. And unlike comics, because it's a property that depends on actual people, you cannot go back and change important bits like you can with comics and videogames. One can't help but wonder if maybe an "Ultimate Marvel" quasi-reboot could work...

As I have to use my existing $180 in Sideshow points before they expire on Jan 1st, I've ordered the Hot Toys Scout and Speeder bike. I was holding off using those points so I could use them for ESB Han but it never happened. 😭

When did SSC change that policy? I was saving points as well and noticed a couple days ago my points were going to expire so I ended up buying Endgame Thor. I remember you used to be able to save and save and save and get whole figures for just shipping.

As far as the hopes of the ST figures… I think the only way the ST gets new figures is if they make a new ST :lol

I think we will see a new Star Wars reveal later tonight or Thursday of a character from BoBF. Still hoping for a Gamorrean Guard. Imagine Fett on Throne with two guards behind him. Epic display!
