I had just posted something about this in the Twilight WK thread before coming here, but what happened is this:
There's a forum called Ultimate Collectors, dealing with weapons replicas. They concentrate on items manufactured by United Cutlery, which has the LOTR license (and now The Hobbit) for weapons from the films. Kit Rae works with UC on their products. Mr. Rae posted on the forum last year that UC had received a notice from WB that licenses for LOTR wouldn't be renewed when they expired, everything would focus on The Hobbit.
That's where the info comes from. It's been a year, so things could have changed by now. I hope so!
