So how can I sum up WK 1

Offensively...rust

Defensively...impressive Despite all these dumb new penalty rules

Overall, other than Rodgers comeback , a lackluster disappointing wk1 with all these stupid blowouts :pfft:

What I take away.. that young QB starters and offensive starters need to play more in the preseason :lecture

The diet that the coaches rest the starters in the preseason needs to change because we can see how offenses especially QB and receivers really need to play more to overcome rust

The running game however was pretty solid for WK1

Saints sure are getting the benefit of the doubt here. And Bucs still get no real respect :lol :

Yeah that’s messed up..I can understand Vikes being on top ..it was a pretty solid defense outing for WK 1

I don’t see why the hype on Hill and Maholmes , even from the analysts. Yes those two shined in WK 1 but I always thought Chargers defense was mediocre at best the last two or three years , plus Chargers didn’t have Bosa :lecture

Other than Hill, who else shined in the KC win..nobody

Let’s see Chiefs against a more better defense like Ravens, Steelers, even Pats now .

Absolutely this chump that wrote the article gaged this WK 1 on the defensive performances, which is this was the problem, like I referred..WK 1 was all about the defenses

The offenses stunk :lecture and the QB performance were disappointing except for Rodgers, Brady and maybe Brees . Flacco was lucky because Bills are horrendous

It seems like they don't want to deviate too far from the rankings that were in place previously. But it's absurd to rank NFL teams based on hype or pre-season performance IMO, so to use that as a starting point is ridiculous. With a couple of exceptions, you never know what you're getting in the NFL until the teams actually get out there and play for real.

I will say for your Saints, that the lack of Ingram really effected the offense, there was no duel threat on the running attack , say what they want on the defense performance, I think they were just rusty , but the offense needed more balance . You can’t have Brees throwing it all the time.

Balance probably would have changed the dynamic of the game, keeping the other team off the field for longer and changing the flow in important ways. Kamera also can't be abused like that for very long. But the Saints did score 40. I hope the defense will improve, but for too many years that defense has stunk to high heaven, and I don't have great confidence moving forward.

I’m not to fond of the Saints receivers either.. they aren’t dynamic and playmakers like Colston, Henderson, Graham etc. were in the Brees/ Peyton era the kind that led they too a SB season. They had Cooks, but they let him go .:lecture

Saints just don’t have quality receivers anymore and I’m shocked why they didn’t fix this in the off season

Loomis always takes that for granted with Brees, and somehow it always works out well enough. In fact, it's a testament to Brees that he makes guys stars, and they leave and don't look nearly as spectacular. But it's true that all receivers aren't created equally. Colston and Graham were special. But Kamera is a phenomenal receiver, in the vein of Darren Sproles, and their ability to use him effectively sets them apart.

The one that stood out to me was the Titans dropping 15 spots. That was the worst possible situation for them the game lasted what like 7 hours with stops plus they had a QB injured.

Sproles is great, but he gets injured too much..hopefully he stays healthy this season

That's my Bucs. I think their sad history plays a part in that as well. They really haven't done much to earn long term respect.

Inconsistent QB and Head coaching will do that for the team

I don’t think TB will ever recapture what Dungy and Gruden did for the franchise ever again

They lack defensive leadership that Sapp and Lynch brought to the table

Winston was supposed to be the future, but look how that is playing out

Every season I see the same issue with titans..Oline , Mariota is always in trouble .

Frankly I can’t understand why so many teams have such bad Olinesman ..I guess coaches aren’t drafting that well in that department anymore :dunno

Physical talents are necessary, but character, and leadership skills are really damn important, and too often in college and pro sports teams are willing to look the other way for short-term gains. Vick in Atlanta could have been an all-time great with that body, but. . .Cam Newton is a good example of a guy with questionable character from his college days who overcame that to be a great success in the NFL. Though his leadership qualities are sometimes suspect, teams would kill for that guy, and I guess the guys in TB were wagering that they might get a Newton 2.0 instead of a Johnny Manziel-type situation.

Winston was doing the exact same things at FSU

Winston had issues in college though. Sometimes, I think you’re right about overlooking talent over character..especially now a days, I think these college QBs are coming out of the draft too soon. They need to stay in College and get their lumps more. It’s just not working anymore for both systems :lecture

It’s good that the NFL got a Goff and Wentz, because the quality of the new generation of QB is just not the same from the NCAA lately.

I will say the quality of defensive and running backs in the last decade coming out of the NCAA has been phenomenal in the talent department, only problem is these guys are coming into an NFL system that is so restricting in the defensive category now :lecture

1. I think it’s more the ownership trying to get their coaches on the cheap (and inexperienced.) They also own Manchester United and a lot of people think they care more about them than the Bucs.

2. They may get it again but not for a long time. Not until they get new ownership or a coach the owner respects enough.

3. Yeah, they have very good D players (McCoy, David, Kwon) but those guys are not the in your face kick your ass leaders Sapp and Lynch were. They are like Derrick Brooks who was leader by example but you also need the in your face guys to balance that and Tampa doesn’t have it.

4. I’ve never been sold on Winston. I didn’t want him or Mariota in the draft. Jameis has so much talent but he seems to have a 5 cent head and he’s not getting better... at anything. He still can’t do a deep ball, he still can’t scramble, he still can’t throw the ball away or take care of the ball (he has a TON of turnovers.) And he’s still a jack ass off the field no matter how many times he says he’s changed. He just had a kid so MAYBE that could change things… I don’t know but I sure hope so.
