Yeah, but you know just reading this thread that football is as important (if not moreso) than religion for lots of folks. To try and force all kids to wear the colors of only one team is unacceptable, in my opinion, if there is a chance that not every kid would be fans of that team. If I were living in Indiana and some principal set down a rule that all kids had to wear uniforms or Colts shirts, you can bet my kid would be wearing a Saints shirt to school that day if he/she wanted to. You can call it rebellious behavior if you want to, but when the rule is stupid, rebellion is justified, IMO. I am all about rules and enforcing rules for kids, but not arbitrary and pretty thoughtless ones like this. The school has a set dress code, made an specific exception for the Super Bowl, and the kid knew this and still wore clothing violating the school's policy.
But apart from the issue of whether it was fair or not to enforce that rule, the fact that the rule was made at all is the biggest idiot moment, the way I see it. That is a principal that does not have good judgment, which is unfortunately a pervasive issue in Louisiana (due in large part to the fact that our local legislators and governor don't think education is important and are not doing what it takes to attract high quality candidates for those positions--though that is another debate for another internet forum).
