The world is not f'd up. The elements in the world that want to use Bio or Nuclear weapons in terror attacks are f'd up. The people who believe that the deaths of thousands of innocents, including children is something that pleases God, are f'd up. The people who attacked Mumbai (which kind of tells us that its not just the US that is a target) were f'd up.
The problem is that this is not a hypothetical scenario. Its not an abstract idea that might possibly happen. There are people that have clearly stated this as a goal. The world is dealing with an evil cancer that has proven around the globe, that they are willing to destroy anyone they see as opposing them.
If we put this on a micro level instead of the macro. Say you have a family of drunken, inbred rednecks (since they are the only minority that is allowed to be singled out) and they stand in front of your house and discuss that they want to break in your home, rape your wife and daughter, and burn the place to the ground. Do you do nothing and assume it's bound to happen anyway? Do you move away and hope they don't follow you? Do you ask if its your fault you have been targeted? Maybe your wife or daughter wore provocative clothing. Maybe if you knock out a front tooth, start wearing overalls and put a broken down car on the lawn, they will leave you alone.
Besides, the world is supposed to love us now that Obama is president. Isn't that the popular wisdom? That George Bush is the cause of all this hatred against us? Despite the first World Trade Center bombing happened under Clinton?
And what is the moral high ground here? To wait until you have definitive, smoking gun evidence to say precisely who did this? To lay back and let millions be exterminated? This is not inevitable. It is only inevitable if nothing is done to discourage these elements.
