Sometimes the ad hominem just saves time. There's no point in dissecting the latest effort by The Discovery Institute, for example. Maybe we should start a thread for discredited economic philosophies.

The irony in that is that once Rand opened her mouth to the effect that government intervention in an ecomony is the original sin, the tax leeches and ward heelers immediately considered her discredited.

My biggest issue with McCain is that he sacrificed his integrity in order to secure the nomination. At some point following the GOP assassination of his character in 2000 he decided to abandon his principles and kowtow to the party line even when it was so obviously opposed to his own convictions (hello torture vote). This was especially apparent last week, when he skipped over his preferred vice presidential choice in favor of a distinctly unqualified candidate designed to pander to undecided women and the religious extremists who were writing him off.

When issues like the economy and war are at stake I think I can very much see W as the face of repub party thanks. If being a republican means towing the line so we can spend billion$$$$ a month on war and send millions of jobs overseas (ie the status quo) and McCain voted to support these W policies, I believe I am pretty safe to say a McCain presidency would pretty much be a continuation of the last 8 years.

billions of dollars and counting on a war that was unnecessary and based on lies. and its so obvious that McCain picked a woman to counter Obama's blackness. their are so many other more qualified people who should have been chosen. would you rather have the former mayor of some obscure village in Alaska next in line for the most powerful seat in the world or the mayor of the greatest city in the world who is a proven leader . Obama has my vote

You're right about strike/counterstrike but in this instance I think it had more to do with Biden's uncontested foreign policy expertise. I'm fascinated by the Palin choice because with the Democrats we have an "all right" candidate backed by someone who would conceivably make a better president, whereas the Republicans are floating an "all right" candidate backed by someone who might conceivably be acceptable as president of the PTA.
