Ok, so you saw it in person and say it's not all THAT bad...

That doesn't sound all THAT good to me...

with regards to the fact that most ppl keep SLAMMING the figure, long before it reaches their doorstep.
as i've said, less than perfect, not that bad,not as good as pre-production
i'd give it an 7.5/10, sumthin like tt.
the pics on ssc make him look jaundiced, but rest assured, he looks pretty damn good up close.

I understand and thanks, but 7.5/10 is not all THAT good to me, not for Obi when EVERYONE felt comfortable SSC wouldn't repeat the mistake of using the wrong colors in paint apps as they did with Anakin...

trust me,it ain't anakin bad. i was expecting a botched paintjob but upon opening the flap i must say,i was impressed, not proto impressed but compared-to-production-piece-picture-impressed

i hope i'm makin sense here :)
i'll try to get pics of it, asap, problem is i never anticipated shops in Singapore'd bring it in, so i ordered it from Legends action figures in Canada...delays,delays!!!
so i'll try to get some when i take a look at the fig at my local retailer, aight?

Obi has very light brown hair, the proto had Obi with very light brown hair, the display piece had Obi with very light brown hair

The production piece does not, what is going on here?

This figure went from a 10 (SDCC) to a 7.5 at best (at least from the photos).

So, this is the most disappointed I have been with a SSC figure. All told, the defects on the Anakin figure were worse... but it was never near perfection like Obi-Wan was.

The painters in the factory just suck. No 2 ways about it or anyway to sugarcoat it.

The only question is, after Anakin, Han and now Obi-Wan... will SSC do anything about it? How many more seminal human SW characters need to be released as subpar figures before action is taken?

No offense Irish. I like you and we usually agree but way your stating your stuff comes across like fact. It's not. This is your opinion. Others may feel this figure is solid or that all of them are.

from what i saw, obi's hair wasn't $h|+ brown, t was more of a lighter coloration...the beard's pretty well done, with decent highlights.unless it was my eyes playin tricks on me, i'd say it isnt all tt dark, remember i mentioned the jaundiced coloration on the face?he's alot pinker, closer to natural flesh.
and boy, when i saw mace i felt he looked horrible, but tt's in the package, and i'd reserve my comments till he's under my spotlight :)

tell ya guys what, let's all wait till the fig's in our hands, if we feel its a botched job, hey, we could always repaint it, or send it to our faves Customikey or Les Walker, innit?
i know, i know,at 50 bucks we shouldn't be doing repaints, but hey,as the ongoing discussion goes,we all HAVETA agree that protos are a step above prod pieces, lets just take a chill pill, if not this discussion's gonna go all over the place :D

Put me in the "disappointed" camp. When I saw this at SDCC, I was blown away. To me, he looked like a little human being standing there... but now, from those production photos Sideshow is displaying... wow. Guess this is what I get for having expectations and getting excited about something. :(

- J!

WOW!!!

How many threads going for this now? The Negotiator sure has generated some intense discussion...just goes to show how important this character (and especially this rendition) is to fans and collectors alike...it definately is the version of the character I most want to add to my collection...

I voted "not sure" because despite the obvious difference between the photos, I want to see him in person and stare at him for awhile before passing final judgement...

I'm must admit I'm a bit disappointed. How can you NOT be after such a stunning prototype! Who on the Sideshow staff gets to keep THAT one? Or does it get shipped to the Lucas compound?

But like it was stated, most Sideshow figures go through a some paint change when they go into production. They simply can not have the same hand painted care as the proto does. The paint application must be simplified.

Except for Mace... I think he looks better than his prototype. But he hasn't any hair isues. :monkey3

Strangely enough, I'm more disappointed with the seemingly transparent quality of Obi-Wan's tunic. He looks like he has been wrapped in a Brawny paper towel. Like Kit Fisto's off color tunic, it's a tougher problem to fix.

Obi's new tunic is the same new material used for the Sith Ani tunic -- much lighter and sheer. I assume the switch was done for financial reasons.

Although the new material probably works better (less bulky) for 1/6 figures, I do like the old material better -- the type used for reg Anakin and Kit.

But how can you say he is "totally off"? When I hear that it sounds like the entire figure is a disaster.

Im not implying it's a total disaster for you or anyone else. I was speaking for myself. Im a huge obi fan, I want this figure to be the best sideshow will ever make. This figure is the reason why I got into 1/6 figures. Before seeing the proto pics of obi for presale I had Zero 1/6 figures, i was only a lightsaber replica and mini bust kind of guy. Now that I have about 15 1/6 figures sitting in my room, in my opinion yes i will have the very highest standards for the one very figure that started it all. take that for what it's worth, but I dont think I'm being irrational for wanting THE BEST product a company could do.

Yeah, as I mentioned yesterday, the paint job doesn't bother me very much compared to the transparent tunic. It's much easier to repaint a face than recreate a tunic with thicker material. I know they are trying to fit the clothes into 1/6 scale (which would be thin)...but I would rather have thicker material than transparent ones.

I'm pretty certain the prototype tunic was thicker and did not have the transparency problem.

I think they just started experimenting with new materials around the time of Sith Anakin production to cut costs.

You are right. I guess its just differing expectations as to what standard of "BEST" Sideshow should be held too. :duff
