I need to pick up McGonagall at some point just to have the character represented in the collection, but it's definitely overpriced. I'm not crazy about the sculpt which seems to be undersized; the hat looks pretty chunky; and even the outfit feels like it was essentially phoned in. The quality drop in this line has been staggering. Although I will say the Head Goblin looks pretty good, albeit overpriced.

Did Star Ace lose the HP license? Wouldn't mind seeing a company like Asmus or ThreeZero take it over. However, that would no doubt mean repurchasing some figures.

Yes, they did just recently. Star Ace confirmed that on several occasions already.

Which is why we all sit in Limbo, wondering if one of our very most and long desired figures (McGonagall) is worth picking up now out of Star Ace’s HP death throws, or gamble on an as yet unknown new licensee, knowing that said licensee will almost certainly look to produce figures Star Ace never got to so as to improve potential sales as a first step.

McGonagall is nowhere near the bottom of the Star Ace line of HP figures in terms of overall quality and accuracy. So do we pick this up now that it’s right in front of us and available, or do we gamble that a better one might one day become available who knows how long from now, if at all. A collector’s quandary….

You sound like you are nearly ready to grab her))))

Yeah, it sounds like you're a poke and a prod away from buying it, lol.

That figure isn't for me, but if you want it you should get it. I suspect the license is probably gonna collect dust before anyone tries to do something with it. and when they do, McGonagall is not gonna be one of the first figures out of the gates if the next line lasts beyond the core trio.

I humbly think, it will be a core duo, not trio. First figure to release, for any Asia based producer, after Harry will be Snape)))

Pretty pessimistic, but yeah, you're probably right. Bandai's 6 inch Sh Figuarts line only did the trio from SS and a Snape before the line died. Though they did show a SS Malfoy before he went into their vault of unmade prototypes.

I look at Dumbledore-Law and I really like him and want a figure. I wonder, what are the chances, that HT will give him to us...

Hot Toys? Likely never. They simply don’t commit to lines that deep unless it’s marvel or Star Wars. There is a better chance of someone like asmus or threezero picking it up.

They asked "Why?" ;)
No, however, there were more replies like this from Star Ace so this is not the only source.

If I had to guess why they lost the license, I would say because Star Ace did a pretty horrible job with the license, they were doing below average head sculpts/figures and most likely they were not able to sell many figures. Nowadays almost any 3rd party company does way better job than Star Ace so why should they keep the license. Harry Potter license deserves better for sure.

Thanks for the Crawford review. I always enjoy his take (although on a personal note, I wish he’d try harder (or at all) to keep his political views out of his reviews).

And here we are. How often do we get to the point in evaluating a Star Ace figure where the best we can manage is, “Well, that’s not terrible…”

Here are a few of his better shots:

He actually quite likes Star Ace HP line, and many of their figures get good grades from him. He really liked the Head Goblin, for example. And teen Draco also got a favorable review.
