People watch movies and go, how hard can it be? Well... Has anyone seen The Room? It is a masterpiece of self-indulgence by a filmmaker that makes Uwe Boll look like Orson Welles. I saw it a couple weeks ago and let me tell you, once you watch it, you can't un-watch it. It is indescribably entertaining. It fails at everything it tries to do but succeeds in other unlikely ways. It could be taught in film schools where it would stand as a shining example of what happens when a filmmaker refuses to listen to anyone's advice.

For a movie that's reputedly awful, it has a 31% fresh rating on Rotten Tomato and oddly the dvd is rated 4/5 averaged on Amazon. :lol

What convinced me to rent it was a quote from Rob Lowe, ''There are scenes that look like you wrote lines of dialogue on a piece of paper, cut them into strips, put them in a hat, shook the hat, arranged them top to bottom, photocopied them, gave them to actors, and told them to act it.''

That scene is classic! I've seen the ads he's taken out in the trades and I've gotten solicitation emails for screenings of this film. It seems that long haired actor is also the writer/director. I'm betting that eventually he'll come out and say he meant for it to be that bad.

The greatest thing about that scene is that it has absolutely no consequence to the movie. It doesn't advance the plot or build tension; it is never built on and nothing brought up in that scene is returned to later. It is like a scene from another script altogether.

That said, the scene starts with a drug dealer asking for money and ends with the line, "he's going to jail." WHAT? Just like that it's cleared up? The cops aren't called, no statement is made. wtf?

I didn't know Christopher Nolan was an actor.

hahaha, that sesame street one is awesome.

I've seen this probably 3 times. It's obviously bull____ that it's a "quirky black comedy" but I've wondered...what if tommy is actually a comedic genius? Just a thought.
