Looks better than expected. I'm still not happy that Hollywood has to remake this film, but I will probably see it if the reviews are decent. They claim the ending is going to make fans possibly think it is darker than the original ending. How can that be?

The production design is the almost the same.
The public dont give a damn about the original look son why the director (who has seen the original) spent his Time doing the same thing.
Would not it been better to do a real variation not just whitewashing?

This movie already exists, with asian people.
its the same movie with white peoples, maybe it doesnt fit your exact dictionnary explication of these expression but the idea of whitewashing is there. I don't see the point of doing it again, copying the look itself for a director like Spike lee, who is a visual director. Scorcese did the same with INFERNAL AFFAIR but at least he did a complete rework of the look, mood not just copying it.

I never seen the original. I've heard of it multiple times from people and how great it is. I've been meaning to get around to watching it but I have to be in the mood for subtitles.

I'm not worried, its movies we're talking about
i just dont get it thats all coming from Spike Lee.
They could have gone back to the original manga for exemple and adapt it, it would have been interesting to see a real western version of this story.
Its a missed opportunity.

Beautifully directed. Its weird tho.
But the kind movie where your like OK I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT and its pretty cool as a moviegoer
If you want some really good korean thrillers Check MEMORIES OF MURDER, THE CHASER, THE MURDERER and I SAW THE DEVIL these are the best genre movies around

All 3 of the movies that make up his revenge trilogy are nuts. I really liked Oldboy, but am still not sure why it's the most popular. they are all amazing. Sympathy for Mr Vengeance in particular was amazing.

I hoped for a DEPARTED kind of remake not just a rehash.

I think OLDBOY is sexier than the other movie of the trilogy, the look of the character, the action and all.
The others felt more like drama i think. Less "fun" to watch.
