Yes, it was typical period Ridley Scott!

Great music, decent cast, nice special effects, wonderful art direction, great villain, a unicorn and a flacid story...hmmm that reminds me of another film... I just can't think of what it is.

:rotfl

I think you had to see this movie first time as a kid...like 8-13 years old, then it makes a different impression, like the Star Wars OT..I personally don't mind it, not one of my favourite movies..But I do own it on DVD..

I think Darth is right of seeing this first as child.....It adds perspective to the movie now. With the Fantasy genre revival, now some 15 yrs later, I believe it holds it's own for it's time. I especially say this after viewing that p.o.s Narnia which has 20 years on this movie.

I like the movie, enjoy watching it and think it was well done. A quick question to customizerwannabe: did you watch the original theatrical release or the directors cut? I ask since the original release has a terrible Tangerine Dream soundtrack that was created for US audiences... the other version has a much better (IMO) Jerry Goldsmith score.

But, as others have said... it could be the kind of movie you needed to watch when you were a youngin to appreciate. Kinda like Labyrinth.

I first saw this film when I was a kid. I liked it back then. It's tolerable now. But clearly, Tim Curry's performance as Darkness is why this movie holds its own after so many years. What a fantastic character and a great performance.

i think he was refering to Blade Runner (unless there was a unicorn in the cantina i missed)

I've honestly never seen it. I'm now 26, is it worth a watch?

Yeah its worth watching at least once. By no means a great film though but it is visually interesting for 1985 dont expect a great story ect though.

I saw it in its theatrical release and I still like it. Pre-CGI creature fantasy is hard to come by. Great make-up. Decent acting as well, especially Curry's performance.

It's ok, I haven't watched it in a while, but I do remember it feeling like a low-budget Sci Fi channel show ... or at least by today's standards.

I havent seen it in so long it would be new again if I watched it today. I barely remember much of anything about it.
I did pick it up on DVD cheap awhile back and started watching it .... until the wife said "Is this the only thing on?" :lol

I do plan to go back and finish it sometime soon though

Saw it as a youngin' and liked it. To this day I'll watch it every so often. It's cheesy and not that great but for an 80s fantasy type film I thought it was really good. Actually many of the films I saw as a tyke hold good memories for me...Dragon Slayer, Clash of the Titans, Red Sonya, Dark Crystal,
Time Bandits, and so on. :D

Theatrical cut = Decent film made better by a great villain

Director's cut = Genuinely good fantasy movie

I can't even watch the directors cut with the Goldsmith score, it's completely out of pace with the movie. The Tangerine Dream soundtrack is one of my favorite parts of the film. I love the movie by the way.
