I saw the director's cut. Thought the scenery was great. Creatures, especially Darkness were great. Couldn't get past Cruise and his typical lack of acting. I'll watch it a few more times and see if it grows on me, but I think a first viewing 20 years or so ago would've helped.

Just saw it for the first time tonight. I kept an open mind and low expectations. A steaming pile of cow dung. My opinion. Yours?

i've tried to watch it numerous times, but it's so cheesy that i can't get thru it.

I've honestly never seen it. I'm now 26, is it worth a watch?

Star Wars or Legend? :monkey5
Legend is, to me, a lot easier to watch than Labrynth, Time Bandits or Krull , and I like all of them. Try watching Yor, the Hunter from the Future first, you'll be able to appreciate almost anything afterward.

I just can't get over Meg Bucklebones being played by the Holo-Doctor from Voyager. :rotfl

I loved the original cut as a kid, I really love the new director's cut now, although I prefer the Tangerine Dream score during the "dance with the Dress" sequence. I think it's a wonderful film, and I'm not sure what anyone could have against it. It's pure, unpretentious, and totally enjoyable fantasy.

the goblins are awesome, the Unicrons are magestic, and Darkness rules all. If it has a weakness, it may be in the three main protagonists not being fleshed out very well. But that's fairy tales for you.

Wow, the Darkness/Legend threads are popping up like Kurgan threads:lol

Anyway, if you already don't know by now, I love the film. Like Darth said seeing it a a child changes your perspective.

As a child you imagination is boomimg and ready for fun fantasy movies like this. As an adult you sit and critique movies FAR to much. I can imagine if I saw SW:ANH for the first time today, bad acting and bad FX would drastically change my perspective on the movie.

Seeing a movie for the first time as a child versus as an adult changes everything.

That being said I still love the film and will continue to watch it for years to come.

I liked most of it as a kid, some parts got boring. Now I watch it more for nostalgia then to see a great fantasy film. The sets, makeup, Meg Mucklebones, Mia Sara, and the Darkness are the best parts. Tangerine Dream score, Tom Cruise, Tom Cruise's unibrow, and Tom Cruise's costume are the absolute worst, everything else is tolerable. I remember I was really disappointed not to see Cruise in a real suit of armor, instead he wore crappy scale mail that ended like a miniskirt.

Thats why you need to update things:

A lot of the players and the world itself in Legend are underdevolped, much like the never ending story but worse. However, Legend is a cool little film, nothing great or amazing but yeah it's okay.

I saw Legend for the first time last year and thought it was alright. I think had I seen it when I was a kid I would have enjoyed it more. I still love the Darkness character however, and you can never have enough Mia Sara.

I did forget to mention the incredible makeup of the film. As ugly as both the swamp witch and Darkness were, they were fantastic sculptures.

And yes, I meant Blade Runner.

Ridley Scott is a fine art Director!

:rotfl

Isn't critcizing a character in a fantasy film for having monobrow like critcizing a cave woman for NOT shaving her legs??

:lol

I like the movie, enjoy watching it and think it was well done. A quick question to customizerwannabe: did you watch the original theatrical release or the directors cut? I ask since the original release has a terrible Tangerine Dream soundtrack that was created for US audiences... the other version has a much better (IMO) Jerry Goldsmith score.

I first saw this as a kid and I suppose I should be embarassed to admit that I liked the Tangerine Dream soundtrack. I even bought it on cassette and used to listen to it over and over...oh such fond memories. I just recently watched the Director's Cut and it didn't feel quite right, yet I couldn't put my finger on it...now I know...there's no more Tangerine Dream.

If you can't stand Tom Cruise, avoid this film at all costs. Tim Curry is fantastic however! :clap

I think Darth is right of seeing this first as child.....It adds perspective to the movie now. With the Fantasy genre revival, now some 15 yrs later, I believe it holds it's own for it's time. I especially say this after viewing that p.o.s Narnia which has 20 years on this movie.

Narnia, whew what a stinker.

Interesting to read this. As a European the "Goldsmith" version was the theatrical cut here and I can't think of hearing any other music during the dance sequence. But it's not only the music that's different, lots of scenes are very strangely cut in the U.S. version. One of the best fantasy films ever! But as said I saw this th first time when I was 15 so i was much more impressed then.
