If it wins the Oscar, they should melt it down and make a bunch of little tiny golden mini-Oscars to give out to all of the people who were unknowingly interviewed for the movie, and whose spontaneous comments are now considered Oscar-worthy screenplay material.

:rotfl

That's pretty funny, all those people can now say that they helped write an Oscar nominated screenplay. Another reason to sue too - they can demand profit participation.

Oh, Cuaron was robbed - he should have been nominated for Best Director and Owen for Best Actor. In fact Children of Men got too few nominations.

Best supporting actress - I haven't seen Babel, but as much as I'd like to see Jennifer Hudson win, I think Cate has this one sewn up. Her performance in Notes on a Scandal is definitely what the Academy looks for.

I've seen many of the nominees for the major awards, but still need to see more. Not really surprised at the slate, the buzz has pretty much prepared us I think.

Babel, Letters from Iwo Jima, Departed were expected. Exclusion of Dreamgirls from Best Pic was also expected. Of those I've seen, I agree that Children of Men deserved much more recognition -- as a minimum for Best Pic and Best Director. :( Was glad that Hounsue got nominated, even though it doesn't hold a candle to what he did in Amistad IMO. But much of Blood Diamond was about the interaction between Hounsue and DiCaprio, so both performances should be acknowledged.

Plan to see The Queen, Pan's Labrynith, and Notes on a Scandal next two weekends (as well as any other major nominees that may be playing). But sight unseen (so far).......GO HELEN!!!!!! :bow :bow

None of the other best actress nominees even need to bother showing up--they can give Helen Mirren her Oscar now.

And I will never forget when Joan Rivers was doing interviews on the red carpet and asked Djimon Hounsou how it felt to be nominated for Amistad. He looked at her and said, "I wasn't nominated."

I hate Joan Rivers.

I am happy with the Best Picture category this year... I am rooting for The Departed. This was my favorite movie of the year. For all of you who missed it Warner Bros. is rereleasing it this friday in over 1,200 theaters. I recommend you checking it out.

Babel was a bomb that no one wanted to pay to see.

Balwin was ripped for Sup Actor for The Departed.

In my opinion Marty doesn't deserve the Oscar for the Departed. The direction had no originality from the original movie that was out just 3 years ago, hell even some of the scenes were shot identical to the original. I feel that if he wins it's to make up for not having won it yet. The acting was great, but definitely doesn't deserve the Oscar for the best movie or direction. It wasn't nearly as good as the original.

I have to agree with this. But...Clint will probably win anywho.

I whole heartedly agree with you regarding Children of Men. One of the years best and should have had more nominations. I was rooting for the little girl from Pans Labyrinth to get nominated, but I know that was a stretch

With all due respect to our fine veterans out there (my Grandfather being one).....

I am SICK of WW2 movies.

Though Eastwood did do something different and had the Japanese perspective..it's still a WW2 film. And I know a German filmmaker did a movie about Hitler's last days recently called "Das Untergang" (The Downfall)...

actually...as I talk about it,perhaps more WW2 films portraying the other side would be more interesting.
