Jesus, that guy has some serious DIORAMAS!!!!

Reminds me a bit of "Davy and Goliath". :)

And I see Les and I aren't the only ones who bought those Diver4 heads. :eek

This is good to break things up. We can put all that other stuff here too; the character busts, etc.

Thanks for sharing that Dave, those are pretty wild. I mentioned to Less, i may try to make a 1/6 mast from the Orca for my Brody figure.

That would be a great base Sean. And it might go really well with the shark bust when it finally gets done. You need to post a tutorial when/if you do one, so we can all see and maybe try one too.

Absolutely Les. Depending on if and what I can find to make it, if the price is reasonable I can pick up some extra materials and if anyone wanted them to try their own after I could sell the stuff. I think the hardest part would be finding a good mast, after that the other parts will probably be easier. I'm thinking like a wood down nailed to a wooden base would be good for stability. That's the really challenge; can I figure a way to do it that's aesthetically pleasing while stable enough the figure's weight won't collapse it.

I would think a weighted base with some clear acrylic for water, and a dowel rod (which can be found at Walmart) could work for the mast. Set in the base, with simulated water, it could work!
It would be singularly unique!

Ok, so, I've been putting some more thought into this since Brody is getting closer and closer to becoming a reality, and If done right, I don't think it'll be too much an issue. I may have to go a little non-accurrate with some elements in order to pull off the physics, but they won't be crucial parts.

I figure this setup should work out fine for both a "smile you son of a +++++" and a stabbing at Bruce's head setup (once Les' breach head is complete).

I decided, for appearance and physics to go something between this

and when he's damn near laying in the water just before the final shot, so I went with the angle here, just as it's really startin to tilt into the water.

I'm probably going to hit up Wal-Mart for a dowel sometime this week, see what else I can find to go into it. I figure if I find the right kind, a painted bottle cap could be used for the light. The biggest ? mark for me right now is what to use for the round waist supports.

Anyone know what I could use to sculpt water for the base. I've never sculpted so I don't know what's out there I could try.

Way I figure, this crude setup would work for the base setup and be strong enough to support a figure.

Once I find a piece to be the mast, I'll see how I can get the figure body I have to rest on it; if it can't look right I'll probably abandon the project.

WOW! Your mast alone will be about two feet long! That's gonna be an impressive piece.

Personally, depending on your display, I would think a water base would just get in the way of placing the shark bust near the mast. If you have a glass shelf, maybe just the mast coming up out of the glass would look cool.

I realize you need the weight of the base as a control, but any "pool" on water below might look awkward in the way it just ends. It's really hard to make molded water look real. Maybe you can afix the mast on a mirrored surface? The cross beam there looks like it will work perfectly to lend support without a base if done right.

Ya, the mast would be pretty big. I think this project is a definite deal with it on the go piece. Like I said, step 1 is just to see if I can lean my Brody on the mast in a way that would look good to me, because as much work as the mast would be, the focus of the display is the chief of course. After that, it's setting up the support side of it all. I'm not sure if I can keep in scale and get the mast to stay up on it's own weight. We'll see, certainly open to exploring all options.

Based on your drawing, it looks like if you made the mast and cross beam metal -- the bottom of the mast, where it meets the crossbeam -- I would think that would be sufficient weight.

If your mast is hollow, which it probably should be, maybe a cylindrical length of metal slid up into the mast bottom. The cross beam itself could be an entirely metal piece, a brace of sorts.

Ambitious project whatever the case. As you said, not sure if you can get the Chief into a satisfactory pose to begin with, let alone balance him on the mast.

Yup, soon as my rifle comes in and I can take my first stab and the pose I'd want and have a look, I plan to. Might be too ambitious, but as the Chief will be solo in my collection, it's a good option for him.

Didn't miss anything Les, I can't remember if I ever took it or just the film still I photoshopped the figure into.

At this point, this dio idea's pretty much back burnered for a long time. It's a nice idea, but it won't be easy, or probably cheap, and I just want to focus on my computer art and photos and enhance the skills I'm trying to make a career of and move my life forward a bit from where it is, and likely at some point in the near future, my time spent doing stuff with my figures will drop a bit to make time for the stuff I can actual use to sell myself for jobs. Fortunately, I'm young enough there's plenty of time to do this, but on my own with a full time job and other things I'm trying to do with spare time, this project just doesn't rank too high for now.
