I think the remaster is an indicator that atleast half the people who played it liked it. Everyone with internet knows how the story goes by now, joel dies, abby is a main character yada yada. Despite the hate train the full price remaster is a massive success. And the game kept selling really well from 2020 to now in general. The game is controversial for sure but I refuse to believe around half or more of the people who played it disliked it. Nowadays I see more people saying it was a masterpiece but with the show coming up the people who despise it are getting louder again. So its hard to say.
If Part II gets a full remake, I'll most likely get it when it goes on sale - but I wouldn't replay it for the story, but rather for it's gameplay - the game itself was a blast to play. And I wonder if a lot of gamers maybe see if that way as well?
The funny thing is, my brother and I actually even preferred Abby's missions over Ellie's most of the time. Her missions seemed more memorable.
I'm also a tech junkie, so it's always interesting to me to see how far Naughty Dog can push their games to its limits. And I always find the little details they add everywhere highly entertaining. Stuff they literally don't have to add, but there they are.
I'll always have massive respect for the ones doing all the heavy lifting at Naughty Dog. But Halley Gross (Part II writer) on the other hand, not so much. lol
I'm not sure yet if I'll get the Remastered version, but instead wait for a Part II Remake instead. I'm not sure I'm ready for that damn Rat King in full RTX 5090 glory though...

Yeah but general audiences aren’t gonna be crying online that Ellie doesn’t look like she does in the game. They don’t care and the studio doesn’t care either.

It’s a pointless discourse at this point, can’t be changed. Yeah there are people that looked closer to the game version but she performed the role well imo and there’s a reason they chose her.
If the info online is somewhat correct and Naughty Dog's annual revenue really is around 270-300 million (yes, that's per year), wouldn't it be a little selfish of them to say, "you know what? Screw the people that made us rich and supported us"?

They’re not screwing anyone just cause some people think an actress is ugly.

Well, Ellie wanted to go into space so Fede Alavarez made it happen... from a certain point of view.

Of course, for good measure he sent her girlfriend there too...

And Rain's colony being named Jackson, with the message being broadcast, "if you feel like you're sick or have an infection, report it immediately."

Dad jokes too...

Yes im convinced the director based her off ellie. From her general appearance, the hairstyle, the acting. I think he even said he based Merced’s character on Dina and he was surprised to see she got casted as her in the HBO show
