I gave feedback based on what the OP was asking, but personally, I'd skip L.A. and spend the extra time/funds in Kauii.
Leave society behind for a while.

There is a store in Burbank called "Blast From The Past" and also there is a ware house that holds a mini convention full of venders Called "Frank and sons" in the city of industry. Its held on only Saturdays and Wednesdays. Hope this helps.

Damn, born and raised in LA but even I haven't been to these places except for Frank n Sons. But then again, the only time I visit Hollywood is when the foreigners are in town and want to walk down the walk of fame.

Maybe hit up the Rainbow Room on Sunset on a busy Friday or Saturday night if possible.
