Hey all,

I'm considering getting the Big Ugly Ape Head set, and I'm wondering if anyone here has it, and what they think of it. I've read reviews of course, but I want to know what you think.

Being a collector of all things POTA-related , I bought it, of course. The Caesar bust is pretty nice, all things considered, but I was a bit disappointed by the DVDs. It had been reported that the Apes TV series discs would include the original television spots (which were not included in the original Complete TV Series release), but they weren't . I already owned the 6-disc Legacy Collection, as well as the Complete TV series collection, so the only thing new for me was the animated "Return To The Planet of the Apes" series, which was much worse than I remembered (hey, I was 11 when it originally aired!). If you don't already own the Apes DVDs, I would recommend it, but if you do, it isn't essential, unless you want the bust and animated series (which I believe will be released by itself in the near future).

One of the reason I too bought the set was because of the TV Spots and it is a REAL pity that they did not include them.

I already had the cartoon series (in a really bad bootleg DVD) so I knew how bad the show was. But I wanted a better transfer. I Definately got. that. I don't think this will be available as an individual relesae. I remember reading that the reason it will ONLY by included in this set is because Fox executives believe that only POTA fanatics (or "Ape Heads", pun intended) would be interested in the cartoon series and that there isn't enough interest in the property to offer it as it's own release. But only time will tell.

Of course there is the longer Battle version. That is also available in the Legacy set but couple with the cartoon series inclusion made this purchase a no-brainer.

The Caesar head packaging is just a bonus. :chew :chew :chew

Now, I only have this Ape Head set, the Evolution set (which contains the shorter theatrical version of Battle and a better transfer of Beneath, I NEED something to compared with) and the Anchor Bay 2-Disc version of Behind the Planet of the Apes to satisfy all of my Simian needs. I sold all of the rest.

What didn't you like about the transfer of Beneath with the Legacy set PZ?

Plus, Unless I am mistaken, don't forget this is the first time that the last 4 movies have been issued in proper anamorphic, and with DD5.1. Although I know you don't necessarily have to get the Ape Bust to get them...

But, for me it was worth getting. Now, if I can just get an alien head DVD set from amazon.co.uk.

The transfer of Beneath for both the Caesar head set and the Legacy box set is a tad lighter than the original Evolution box set. I read it at some DVD web site somewhere so I decided to conduct my own test. I watched Beneath from new set from about 20 minutes (to get used to the way it was transfered) and then put in the old Evoultion disc of Beneath. There is a VERY distinct difference. :monkey2

Sure I could re-adjust my TV set to show the film darker, but since I was going to keep the old Battle version already, I decided to keep the whole box set as well.

They will be good as "loaners". :D

Is the head 1:1 scale? Is it hollow or solid? I don't really have a doubt about whether I want it at this point (any buyer suggestions welcome), but I'll probably be compelled to "fix" the head.

The bust is 10 1/2 inches wide and 12 1/2 inches tall. It is a hollow roto cast.

I can't believe someone took the trouble to ressurect this thread. I love my set! Even the wife got into it!

Did she let you keep the head?

That Deep Discount Price is insane! I didn't exactly pay $179 for it ($137 shipped  ) but still! I should have known that with an edition size of 10,000 that SOMEONE would be clearancing those heads out. :monkey1 :monkey1 :monkey1

Yeah, we thought the Amazon price was good, but you are right, with 10K, we should have known it was only a matter of time until a price like this came along! At least anyone who held out can get it cheap! :rotfl

Yeah, there really was NO WAY that I was going to wait for this one! :monkey5 :monkey5 :monkey5
