Perhaps licensors are coming after these companies. The recent "Survivor" is also less than exact in likeness.
If they are afraid of the licensors I'm not sure producing a lackluster portrait is going to make much of an excuse for them. Licensors are going to care about the character more than the actor/actress likeness. When the clothing and accessories all match thier character, the "damage" has already been done. At that point offering a likeness that is off isn't going to fool licensors anymore than the bogus names they come up with.
